Degustabox Review – May

5 June 2015 by Eileen

This is my second month reviewing this Degustabox. Yet again, another interesting set of food and drink products. This time around, the theme is BBQ. I’m afraid to say that the weather has been too terrible for BBQs. Nevertheless we have had our own ‘BBQ’ chicken cooked in the oven over the bank holiday!

Before I go into more detail, let me recap on what is Degustabox? It is simply a monthly subscription food & drink box. Each month, you will receive 9 – 14 different types of food & drink products and many are completely new to the market. You only pay £12.99 including delivery. There is no commitment and you can cancel any time. If you do like this idea, use this code 35SRB to give you a £3.00 discount when registering! If you don’t drink alcohol, you can opt to receive an alcohol free box!

Opening the box, all the items were neatly packed even through transit. Plenty of bubble wrap is used to protect those breakable items. They also included product information and a flyer/recipe. The flyer has information to help you to understand where the foods have come from and the RRP. On the back of the flyer is the recipe.

May Degustabox Review

Inside this box, there are a total of 11 items which are Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey Barbecue Sauce, Schwartz Grill Mates Marinades, Fentimans Ginger Beer, Maggi So Stir Fry, 9 Bar, Daelmans Stroopwafels, Sarsons Balsamic Vinegar, Slim Pasta Lasagne, Kid’s Coco Coconut Juice and Fuel 10k Protibriks.

The products are random but it did provide us as a family of four meals for lunch, dinner and snacks too! Our regular weekly grocery shop normally consists of buying things off a shopping list so I love the idea of going off script and receiving these random goodies. With this box, I do get quite a few surprises and nice finds!

We all love instant noodle and Maggi is my favourite instant noodle brand in Singapore. It is great to know that I can get them in UK. I have received two packets of different flavours. They are big packets for two person portions. The flavour is great and I would buy them again.

Next, I tried the Schwartz Marinade in a bag – I love this idea! Normally I use zip-lock bags to marinade raw poultry overnight by adding a sauce. With this Schwartz bag, I just need to add in the poultry and problem solved! What an awesome idea! The flavour is good too.

We also had the Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce to try. The sauce went down well. It is quite thick so good for marinating, dipping or adding into food! They are available in Tesco.

Mr C had tried this Fentimans Ginger beer which is non-alcoholic and made from finest Chinese ginger root. He is a ginger beer fan and liked the strength and flavour of this. As for the 9bars, it is a snack we regularly buy! They are packed with flavour and of course very delicious to eat!

I love coconut drinks so I tried the Kid’s Coco with Banana. It is definitely not my favourite. I still prefer just juice itself without anything added! The Daelmans stroopwafels come with creamy caramel fillings. Not a biscuit for dunking in your tea but it’s a delicious biscuit. So if you like the idea of a surprise box, do check out Degustabox!

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

Looks like an interesting selection. I like the idea of this as a way to try different foods.
