The Adventures of the Cuddle Pirate is a series of children’s books written by Kelly Elsworthy and beautifully illustrated by Becky Dench. It is about a healthy pirate & his crew who are out solving unhealthy mysteries but there is always someone out there trying to ruin all the healthy food!
In the story, the cuddle pirate has five crew members who are all named after healthy fruits or vegetables. They are Blueberry Beth, Broccoli Brad, Strawberry Sally, Milky Max and Tomato Tommy!
Of course, there are always bad guys who are the Sugar Shark and his two henchman Pop The Burping Piranha and Choccy the Crab! They are never far away and are always seem to be at the centre of the unhealthy mysteries!
This series’ first book: The Jelly Giant was published on June 2012 and the second book: The Fruity Fish followed on 8 July 2013. Now the third book: The Mango Monkey is coming soon! These books are suitable from aged 3 to 7.
Both current books come with matt covers, full colour illustrations throughout the pages and the words are printed in comes in various sizes. Each book contains 30 – 32 pages. It was quite a long book us to to read together but we still managed to read it in one session. There are no big nor difficult words that my seven year old couldn’t read. Also at the back of the pages, it’s a nice touch that the author added her own healthy recipe to it.
The Jelly Giant
The story is about the time when the Cuddle Pirate and the gang met a Jelly Giant while exploring the island looking for treasure. What they did was extraordinary!
We love this book as it helps children to start understanding the importance of healthy eating and how sugar is bad for your health. It gives positive messages to everyone and also adds fun into healthy eating.
The Fruity Fish
This adventure is all about the cuddle pirate and his crew helping fruity fish to get back what belongs to her from those three junk marauders! Both my children love how Cuddle Pirate and his crew always come through with a great idea.
We all enjoyed these books as they are unique stories about positive eating, and they also highlight the difference between healthy food and junk food.
Both the books are priced at RRP £5.99 each and they are available to buy online, Waterstones or Amazon.
