Year of the Goat Wooden Spoon Craft

21 February 2015 by Eileen

Happy Chinese New Year! 新年快乐 Saying bye bye to the Brother Horse and welcoming the Year of the gentle Goat/Sheep. This year, we have been making a lot of sheep crafts. Do take a look at our CNY Pinterest board! To help keep us busy this half term, we decided to make a goat from a wooden spoon. This year happens to be the Wood Goat year. So what better than making a craft out of wood!

year of the Goat wooden spoon craft

This is a very simple craft with minimal materials but will require a couple of hours. It can get quite messy too!

Materials:

  • Wooden spoons
  • Brown paint
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Brown foam/felt
  • White foam/felt
  • Brown threads 4cm long
  • Blu Tack Glu Dots/glue
  • Black marker pen

Method:

  1. Paint the wooden spoons brown all over and allow it to dry off. If you have any old wooden spoons, don’t throw them away! You could make animal puppet crafts or use it for a drum to play in the garden!

  2. Cut a few triangle shapes from the brown foam/felt as the goat’s ear and a few long pointy horns from the white foam/felt.

  3. Once the wooden spoon has dried, add the wiggle eyes, ears, horns and the brown threads on the wooden spoon using the Glu Dots/glue.

  4. Use the marker pen to draw the nose and mouth. My daughter insisted to draw the goat some eyebrows!

Now you are ready to use your goat in a puppet show!
