fatframe iPad Case Review

3 November 2014 by Eileen 4 Comments

Both of my children use an iPad every day and I’ve lost count the number of times they have dropped it. Each time, I just hold my breathe hoping that they didn’t break the screen or anything else. So far, no major damage except a few scratches. I have always kept an eye out for a better child-friendly iPad cover. We had tried the OtterBox iPad case but they are too heavy for my children, so we switched a more run-of-the-mill iPad casing which don’t really provide much protection at all.

I am so glad to learn that there is a child friendly super protective iPad case designed especially for children – fatframe! I can see why they call themselves fat frame!

fatframe frame & stand review

fatframe is made from a durable material which is non-toxic, BPA, lead, latex and PVC free. It is soft, spongy and lightweight. If they dropped it on the floor, it will bounce off on the side and land flat. It will definitely protect the side of the iPad but I don’t think it will protected the screen if the screen landed on something sharp like a rock.

As the material is non-toxic, it is safe if chewed – not that I would recommend you try of course. The frame is easy to wipe clean with a cloth.

Once I opened up the packaging, there is a dummy ‘iPad’ in there. Simply push it out and slot in your iPad. It is suitable for iPads 2, 3 and 4. The cleverly designed handles are really easy to hold but it’s a shame that the finish on the side has a very thin line where the case was joined during manufacture. Now my daughter is able to carry her iPad with ease like a shopping bag!

The ports remain easy to access with no covers to fiddle about with but you have to flip it back in order to change the volume etc. The down side of the charging port is that the charging cable bends quite sharply because of the short space between the port and the handle. My daughter used to plug her own charger but with this sharp bend, I prefer to do it for her as I worry she will break the cable.

The fatframe needs to be used with the fatframe Stand in order for it to stand (purchased separately). It is made from the same material as the frame and is lightweight. It is slightly bulky to take out as it doesn’t fold and is a fixed shape. So we only use it on a desk or floor at home. Most of the time, she will pop the iPad on her lap.

Overall, this is perfect for young children who are accident prone with its great design. It gives you piece of mind protecting your gadget. It is inexpensive and they are going to have more accessories like a frame for car headrest, bag coming out soon.

Do pop over and have a look at my video review:

It is available to buy from their website or Amazon. Also check out their Twitter and Facebook pages for more news.
