How I wish I had known about Kegel8 Mother Nurture before Mr K was born! What is so great about Mother Nurture is that besides being able to use it as a pelvic toner, it also acts as a TENS machine. It is a three-step companion to help you through pre-conception, birth and beyond.
Last year, I had tried out the Kegel8 vaginal cones which proved quite tiring after some time but nevertheless they are great to exercise when you are out and about. This Kegel8 Mother Nurture on the other hand is so much easier to use as it uses electronic muscle stimulation to strengthen your muscles without you having to do the exercise.
Inside the box, it comes with:
- Kegel8 Mother Nurture unit
- 9v battery
- Electrode Pads
- Boost button
- 2 lead wires
Setting it up is very simple. Do remember to purchase the gel lubricant and disinfected care pack to go along with it.
On the Kegel8 Mother Nurture unit, there are two channels. It is important to connect the vaginal probe into Channel A in order for it to work.
There are 8 programmes to help you along:
- Pelvic Exercise Routine
- Full Pelvic Exercise Routine
- Labour TENS Pain Relief Programme
- Overactive Bladder/Nocturia
- Stress Incontinence
- Mixed Incontinence
- Weekly Maintenance
As mentioned, this also works as a TENS machine, but I am not 37 week pregnant or in labour. So I have personally not used this functionality. It is fairly straight forward to set up and place the pads on your back. Connect the boost button into the boost channel to control the natural pain during labour. The display abbreviation is LBR (Labour Pain).
For almost a month now, I have been using the Stress Incontinence (STR) programme. Stress incontinence means you leak when you laugh, cough, sneeze, exercise etc.
Before inserting the vaginal probe, remember to clean it and apply some amount of lubricant. I found it easier to do it after a shower while wearing my nightdress. I do find it strange to have a cable hanging out my pants though. Then insert the probe cable with the lead wire into channel A. Once connected, press the green button to turn it on, select STR and set your mA. On the LCD screen, the left mA is to select the strength of the electrical pulses and the right mA is to select the phase.
This programme takes 40 minutes to complete but it is broken out in two sessions. The first ten minutes, you will feel pulsing inside your area. Then it stops and you have to reselect the mA, and this will last for 30 minutes. In the second half, the electrical pulses is intermittent buzzing.
You have to do this discretely as the cable/unit is hang out your pants. Also I found that using it during bedtime is best as you are more relaxed and comfortable. You won’t want to clip on the unit and walk around doing chores. I simply can’t. The electrical pulse is so intense that I do crunch my face up at times. My husband thought I was unwell. It does not feel painful at all but the buzzing feeling does make me crunch up.
I have used it for a month now (3-5 times a week). I can feel a small difference in my pelvic floor and I hope in long run, it will get better. The unit also has a weekly maintenance programme which I will be using after my stress incontinence resolves.
I would definitely recommend the Kegel8 Mother Nurture. It’s a great kit and is superb value for money. This machine have a wide range of uses and I am sure it will suit one of your problems.
