Boj App Review

24 July 2014 by Eileen

Boj is a new animation in Cbeebies with Jason Donovan voicing the ‘Pops’. Boj is a bilby with a unique perspective on things. He and his family burrowed to Giggly Park with Mimi and Pops and there’s always something to discover and problems to solve using his unique, upside-down, inside out, topsy-turvy way of seeing the world.

Currently they have two AppBooks on the iTunes AppStore. ‘Boj – The Collector’ and ‘Musical Mayhem’ were released to accompany the CBeebies show, ‘Boj!’ the books take an interactive lead on the first two episodes aired. The books are narrated by Jason Donovan.

The Collector

This is a unique, specifically written story based on the Boj – The Collector TV episode. It is about Boj learning about different type of collection like hats, trophies etc. So he decided to do his own collection which is cardboard boxes, leaves and others. He then turns them into useful things for his friends. You can either let Pops (Jason Donovan) read to you or read by yourself.

In this app, there are additionally three activities. Firstly, you can sing-a-long with Jason Donovan. Or play either the collect game or build game. They are very simple game designed suitable for pre-school children.

Musical Mayhem

This story is written based on the Boj – Musical Mayhem TV episode. Boj shows us all how to loosen up, be free-thinking, creative, pro-active and resourceful – and ultimately how to put aside our differences and all get along. Mr Cloppity is organising the Giggly Gig and Boj and his buddies are all set to perform in front of their parents. When Denzil squish-boshes his guitar, Boj has a Boj-a-Boom idea to get everyone playing again. In the app, you help Boj make a cardboard box guitar and see how he uses different types of instruments to make his one man band. You can either let Pops (Jason Donovan) read to you or read by yourself.

The apps are completely free from in-app purchasing, external links and are trusted by the US certification Moms Trusted program, ‘Know What’s Inside’. To read the ebook, you have to turn the page like a book at the right hand corner.

Both of my children had not watched Boj before but they both enjoyed listening to the ebook and playing the mini games in between. The stories are enjoyable and interesting to read.
