While I was pregnant with my first child, I bought a digital ear thermometer as I know it is always handy. I used to be a nurse and I know how important it is to have your own thermometer to help monitor your children’s temperature when they are ill. It helps you make an informed decision on whether to give your children medicine or if they are more serious, take them to the hospital. After owning a digital ear thermometer for years, I was very pleased that Brother Max has a Non-Contact Thermometer which lets you take your little ones temperature quickly and accurately, without needing to disturb them.
Ear Contact Vs Non Contact
I always find it hard to take my children’s temperature via the ear as it disturbs them especially if I have to brush their hair to the side first to their ear canal. Also we need to change the disposable probe cover after every use.
The Brother Max Non-Contact Thermometer allows you to take a touch-free forehead temperature reading! And there is no need for the use of probe covers.
How does Brother Max Non-Contact Thermometer work?
Simply hold close to the forehead and press the button for a fast and accurate digital temperature reading to within 0.2º in just 1 second. For easy reference, the temperature range alert light will display red, orange or green to indicate if the temperature is in the normal, raised or high range.
Functions:
- The LCD display has a backlight for easy reading at night time.
- A memory stores the last 19 temperature readings to refer back to.
- A mute button removes sounds to avoid disturbing little one.
- You can also use this thermometer to measure the ambient room temperature, ideal for keeping an eye on the temperature in the nursery.
- The battery level is shown on the display to indicate when this needs replacing.
- There is an auto shut-off feature to conserve battery life.
- It is highly energy efficient with exceptionally long battery life.
- It is easy to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit modes.
- It includes 2 x AAA batteries and instruction.
It is very simple to use with only one click and you get the reading. But make sure you check that you have selected the correct icon for forehead or room carefully. I didn’t look properly and kept getting temperatures below 33º. It is not until I checked the instruction booklet that I discovered that I had it on the wrong mode.
The Brother Max reading on my forehead has consistently shown 36.3º. I took a couple of tests while I am sitting and 30 minutes apart. At this moment, I cannot judge how effective it is to read a high temperature on a person as thankfully none of us has a high temperature.
Taking temperature via the ear is always the best choice as the reading is from the core body temperature which measuring the eardrum gives you as it shares blood supply with the temperature control centre in the brain. However, many children or adults don’t like to have ear temperature taken as it can be uncomfortable or the ear hurts. So forehead readings provide a convenient alternative. It is your choice to choose which one is suitable for you and your family. I do find that the beeping sound is quite loud that I had to mute it all time. Overall, this is a great solution to not disturb your loved ones while taking their temperature.
