Miioon Ruckjack with Moshi Monster

8 October 2013 by Eileen

As winter is approaching it is time to get out your coats. Ms C has outgrown her old white coat and we were very lucky to try a new website Miioon that allows the children to design their own clothes and accessories. Miioon is a co-creation site that is all about getting kids getting creative and designing their own clothes (Ruckjack, T-shirt, Swoopercape, and Pyjamas) selecting their own accessories, with some of their favourite characters – e.g. Moshi Monsters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In October, Miioon are also launching a gift card through Asda which makes it a really easy Christmas gift – particularly for god children, friends’ children, young relatives etc.

Miioon Ruckjack with Moshi Monster

We have chosen to design a Ruckjack.  A Ruckjack is a coat that cleverly transforms into a rucksack in four easy steps, making it perfect for rain or shine – ideal for school trips or running around the playground. The website is fairly simple to use.  We went for a red jacket with Moshi Monster inner linen.  We picked three characters out of 10 choices for the Oonits which you use it for the zip pulls on her Ruckjack.  Each Oonit costs £1.99 extra and is optional.  Add in the treasure box and select the size.  It come with 5 sizes from 3 to 12 years old.  I had a few problems with the free code and I tweeted them at @Miioon1.  Within awhile, they tweeted back and help me solve the problem.  We received the jacket within two days and it was very nicely packed.  I am very impressed with the quick service and delivery!

This is Ms C (aged 4) and Mr K (aged 5) trying on the Ruckjack size aged 4 to 5.  It is comfortable, thick and very well made. The colour is very fresh and my children love it. To insert the Oonits, simply push into the rubbery loop. The deep hood can be stowed away. It comes with a Thinsulate inner layer which keeps it warm, with Velcro cuffs and Teflon lining to keep it dry. It is machine washable but we have not had chance to try it out yet. It is also great that it is stain resistant but again, we’ve not had it long enough to give a verdict on this.

I do love the idea of how it transforms into a rucksack by turning inside out and zipping up.  It is quite simple to convert. When it is a rucksack, it is quite small which allows you to carry just a couple of smaller items. They also come with free shoelaces with every purchase. The shoelaces are pictures of the Miioon characters and quite long, which is suitable for older children’s shoes.

The Ruckjack costs £29.99 to make plus three Oonits (£1.99 each) and £2.50 postage so the total costs were £38.46. I think it is a bargain for a quality jacket! I would highly recommend them as they are unique and great quality. It would make it into my top Christmas gift list to recommend!

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.

I guarantee you it is well worth the price tag – it is a technical jacket built to last (a hand me down to younger siblings). Fast fashion coats won’t withstand the elements, transform in to a bag, reverse so that you can wear it plain side or patterned side, customise the zips and have 3M thinsulate (warmth without weight). I won’t list all the tech spec 🙂

Think superhero of kids clothing 🙂 Great value!

Absolutely! You got it – as parent of two boys who tend to fling off their coat as soon as they get hot – this solves that problem. They carry it when they no longer want to wear it! And you get to enjoy walking wthout a pile of coats in your arms! Plus they love it so much (as they have a hand in the design) – so no more mislaid coats 🙂

It’s definitely a lot more than I would spend on a jacket for my children but I do think it looks nice and it’s good that you can design it yourself.
