My Ice Cream Challenge

I am always up for a new challenge or competition especially cooking or baking.  As many will know, I am from Singapore and since I was brought up in an Asian country, my preferred style of is mostly Asian food. For this challenge I tried three different ingredients! I am going to make some unique flavours that you won’t be able to find in the shop! I am making a Milo, a Ribena and a Rosé flavour ice cream!

I have received this ebuyer Swan Ice Cream and Gelato maker to do this challenge.  Note that the freezer bowl has to be kept in the freezer until you are ready to add your ingredients and always use a tea towel to hold it.

Milo Ice Cream

My first try is Milo Ice Cream. Milo is quite popular in Asia. They are like Ovaltine or hot chocolate in UK – an instant powder to make a chocolatey drink. Mr C had never have drunk Milo until I introduced him to it 8 years ago and he now prefers it to hot chocolate. I used to bring over bags of Milo from Singapore until I found they sold it in Asda’s world food section and Chinese supermarkets.

The ingredients are very simple:

  • 200 ml Double cream
  • 200 ml Single cream
  • 20 g Caster sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla essence
  • 8 tbsp Milo
    (For 2 – 3 people)

Mix all the ingredients before pouring it into the freezer bowl and let it stir for at least 30 minutes. It tastes gorgeous! It’s a delicious variation of chocolate ice cream and we all loved it. We all finished it within minutes!  My children love it on the cones while I ate it straight from the freezer bowl!  Yum yum!

Ribena Ice Cream

Next is the Ribena Ice Cream! Ribena is my son’s favourite drink and they are my childhood favourite. I am using the same ingredients as above but swapping Milo with Ribena. I poured in almost 100 ml of undiluted Ribena. The ice cream was quite wet and soft. I think I should have added a teaspoon of cornflour to make it thicker (as mentioned in the recipe book). It tasted very light and of course like Ribena.  Mr C thought it tasted like a creamy blackcurrant sorbet. I was quite impressed with the taste as was the rest of my family.

Rose Ice Cream

My third attempt was the Blossom Hill Rosé Ice Cream. I think this is one of the best ice creams that I ever tasted! It is very mild but yet I can taste the alcohol. I also used Ryvita crackerbread and ate like am ice cream sandwich. My husband could hardly contain himself – you can see he is very excited about it! It is definitely great for an adult party dessert!

I love my ice cream maker as it allows me to create the most unique flavours that you simply won’t be able to buy in shops! It is really simple to use and to make the most delicious desserts! Do note that if you would like to make one batch, the freezer bowl should be in the freezer for at least 8 hours and you request space in the freezer. The ice cream should be consumed immediately or within an hour of making. You can make up to one litre of ice cream in one batch. Now I am going back to create more unique ice cream flavours!

    sounds great, I would never have thought of using these items in icecream but sounds as if it all worked very well

    I LOVE milo, it’s a very Caribbean thing too! The wine ice cream sounds amazing, I’m not surprised your husband has such a massive smile on his face xx

    I think you are crackers to come up with these flavours! The milo looks lovely – still not convinced on wine but your husband certainly looked like he enjoyed it!
