Room on the Broom Theatre

11 August 2013 by Eileen

Last Thursday, the lovely people from Town Hall & Symphony Hall kindly offered my family tickets to watch Room on the Broom Theatre. We had a fantastic time and I would recommend this show to anyone with children who is over 4 years old. The recommend age is 3+ years old.

room on the broom

Room on the Broom is a children’s book by writer and playwright Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Before the show start, the four actors and actress came out and played hide and seek with the audience. It was very fun and nice of them to start the show like that. I kept telling Mr K to look behind as one of them were hiding behind us. He looked all confused!

This show tells the story of a kind witch and her cat who invites a dog, a bird and a frog to join them whilst travelling on her broomstick. The songs were very catchy and the puppets are really cute and lively! The show runs for approximate 55 minutes without break. Therefore, it is important to get the children snacks, drinks and toilet break before the start of the show. You won’t want to miss a thing!

As there are 5 of them on the broomstick, it is too heavy and the broomstick breaks into two. The witch falls and lands next to a hungry dragon! Without her broom and her wand, who is going to save her from the dragon? If you have read the story before, you will probably know the ending! We were so impressed with the dragon suit that Mr K wanted one! He always loves dressing up and has many costumes. As many will know, Julia Donaldson is the author of some brilliant children’s books and none of her books fail to amuse us! It is a fabulous storyline and I would recommend this to anyone!

Disclosure: We received tickets for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
