My friend Nigel is a book written by Jo Hodgkinson. The book is suitable for ages seven plus. This book has prompt me to ask my mum a lot of questions like why Billy’s parents love magic, why Billy’s parents want Billy to swap his pets and why Nigel is so sad etc.
The story is about how Billy rescues Nigel the snail and they become great friends. Billy taught Nigel how to play new games. Billy’s parents don’t understand why Billy and Nigel had become great friends and try to introduce Billy to a giant whale, a giant dancing bee, elephants that do tricks and a tiger who is braver than Nigel. But Billy’s parents magic is rubbish and the animals cause mayhem. Nigel was upset by Billy’s parents and left home. But he then heard Billy’s cry for help. He quickly rushed back and saved the situation. Billy’s parents then realised that they were wrong. It’s a happy ending that Billy had his best friend back.
I am enjoying being read the book by my mum and the pictures were very colourful and interesting. I rate this book 4 stars out of 5.
