Swimming Aid Review: Monkey Swimmers

17 November 2012 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Recently, I won a Monkey Swimmers limited edition armbands, swim bag, book and chart through a competition organised by Mini Social’s Facebook.  Mini Social is all about innovative, useful – time saving products to make family life easier. Take a look at their website.

As for Monkey Swimmers, I had never seen them before until now.  I did some research and this is the information about the armbands.

Swimming Aid Review Monkey Swimmers

Monkey Swimmers are made from non-toxic, soft foam that is non-biodegradable. They are recyclable. The layered design of the armbands means they’re slim and more comfortable to move arms freely in the water. By removing the layers, you reduce the buoyancy in a safe and controlled way as your child gains more confidence in the water. The layers are held securely together using safety seals which once broken make the layer permanently detached. Please do not put the layers back on once you have taken them off as they won’t be as secure. To put each arm on, remove the centre starfish and pass your child’s hand through the hole, sliding onto the upper arm.  As it slides on, it will adapt to the size of your child’s arm. It is designed to comfortably and securely grip the upper arm without pinching the skin like many inflatable armbands do.The Monkey Swimmers are being marketed as the world’s first swim system that will actually prepare your child for swimming lessons. They are made in the UK. They have been developed in strict accordance to BSEN13138-1 and AS1900-2002 safety standards.

They fit really well for Ms C and she likes them a lot. It is colourful, lightweight and slim (24.6 x 20.8 x 4.8 cm) that allows more movement over traditional armbands. During the Ms C’s swimming lesson, some mothers asked me what she was wearing! I like the idea of no longer needing to inflate armbands. It is suitable for 1 – 6 year old which could last a long time for her. They are easy to put on and take off. The most important thing is that Ms C feels comfortable when they are on her arms.

After use, it dries up pretty fast but it does trap water in between the ring layers. The other bad point is once all the rings were removed, this armbands will not be able to be passed onto the next young child. It is also quite bulk to carry in a swim bag or to take on holiday. I rate this product 4 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I won this Monkey Swimmer’s Kit through Mini Social’s Facebook competition.
