Summer Activities A – Z: M

21 August 2014 by Eileen

Yay! We are officially halfway there and we are taking the summer activities very slowly right now. Both children’s energy levels are unrelenting and it’s me who is struggling to keep up!

Mooncake Festive summer activities

M for Macaroni

Macaroni is one of my children’s favourite pasta and we probably have it every two weeks! It’s a great versatile dish.

M for Market

Market is a great place for children to learn about their daily foods. Recently, we went to a wet market where they sold fish and all kinds of seafood. Both children were very excited but at the same time, felt disgusted to see all the dead fishes. I am not expert but my dad did pass down his own trick to choosing the freshest fish by making sure the skin is firm and the eyes look bright.

M for Maze

If you have read about our adventure at the National Forest Adventure Farm, you may have seen that we had ventured into the maize maze and it was a lot of fun!

M for Money

My grandma recently passed away and she had left us (all her grandchildren) a bag of old Singapore coins. I am so pleased to receive them and I was able to show it to my children.

Also in the Chinese calendar, this month is the seventh month ghost festival, so we burned a box full of paper money for my dad!

M for Mooncake

Mid-autumn festival is coming soon and everywhere in Singapore, people are buying mooncake to give to their friends and relatives. Mr C had not tried all the different mooncake flavours and coincidentally we came across a mooncake exhibition. So we walked through all the stands and tasted all the uniquely flavoured fillings. We came across the a durian mooncake, Chocolate skin mooncake and many more! It was a great experience especially for Mr C as the usual mooncakes we normally get are the traditional lotus seed types.

Now I can’t wait to get the ingredients to make mooncakes to try out!

M for Movie

Mr C took Mr K to watch Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It was about one hour and fifty minutes long but both of them really enjoyed it and would recommend it if you like sci-fi movies. Mr K was so excited to tell me the whole plot and how he loves the weird and wonderful characters in the show!

Ciao for now and I hope you can join in with us for the letter N!
