Treasure Island is a book written by Karen King and illustrated by Ben Mantle. It is suitable for ages 5 and above. It was released on 1 June 2013 and is published by Top That Publishing. Just a little information about the book. It is a hardback containing about 16 pages. The font is a good size, simple and easy to read by young school children. Each page is beautifully illustrated with pirate scenery. The pages are made from thick glossy cardboard pages which should make the book more durable.
The story is about Pete who went along on his uncle Jim’s pirate ship. His uncle was ill and he asked Pete to lead his pirates to find the island filled with treasure. It was quite a short and simple story but ideal for my son to read as he is still learning to read.
At the back of the book, it comes with 4 pieces of press out cardboard. Both of my children helped to pop out the pieces and it took me 10 minutes to build it. I would advise not allowing young children to build this as it requires precise insertion. It becomes fairly robust after it is built considering it is made from card and I am particularly pleased with our Pirate ship. We love the book and we are able to use the press out pirate ship to bring the story to life! I rate this book 4 stars out of 5.
