Lite Brix – Lumi Star Racer Review

30 July 2013 by Eileen 4 Comments

The world of construction playsets will light up this summer with the introduction of Lite Brix which, with both girls and boys sets, offers every child a totally new and illuminating brick building concept to discover. There are over 10 different types of playsets to choose from: Pet Shop, Mansion, Super Jet Fighter, Extreme City Lights, Lumi-Port, Rescue Copter etc.

In this playset, Lumi Star Racer can also be constructed into a Drag Racer. This playset is suitable for 6 plus and requires batteries. It took my husband Mr C and my 5 year old son Mr K just under 2 hours to build this gorgeous Lumi Star Racer, but that was including managing Ms C too!

Construction

The step by step instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The bricks are made from good quality plastic but at times, it is quite hard to put two pieces together – even Mr C struggled with some. This playset will required adult help if your child is below 8 years old as it was not easy to put on the tyre onto the wheel rims and some of the bricks.

The building system includes special connector pieces to attach the Lite Brix to each other so you can build the model on different angles, and translucent pieces that glow with colour from the LEDs. The LED lights should last for a long time.

Battery Compartment

It requires 3x AAA batteries which are not included. You will need a small Philips screwdriver to remove the screw from the battery compartment. Slide the cover and insert the batteries.

Play value

This is a very challenging playset. It requires fine motor skills and encourages independent play, problem solving and inquisitive thinking. It is also great to help the children understand how the battery powers the LED lights through the circuit and Mr K was keen to learn.

The downside is that some bricks break off the car easily which really frustrated Mr K. This car has to play gently or it’s more for display purposes. A couple of the stickers are over hanging off the bricks.

Overall, my son love this light up car and he understands that this car has to be played with care. I rate this 4 stars out of 5. This will make a great gift for boys who loves constructions. Do check out Lite Wars and Rescue Copter.
