In every household, there is bound to be a sock monster hiding behind the washing machine or dryer waiting patiently to steal one of the sock twins! We have all been in this kind of situation before where its twin is nowhere to be found in the load. It can be so annoying especially if it is a brand new pair of expensive socks. No need to worry though as there are many other uses for them. Socks can act as cleaning dusters, dog toys and so much more.
Here are some useful ways to upcycle your socks.
Dog Toys
It seems our buddy dog’s sole purpose in life is to destroy all soft toys and tennis/rubber balls we have in our home. For any temporary quick fixes, if the soft toys or tennis balls are small enough, I will fill it back up with a sock or two to prolong its playability. A couple of times, I have a placed an okay-condition rubber ball that had plenty of small tiny holes created by her piercing into it, into a sock to extend its life.
Anti-Fog for Car Window
This is a nice life hack by DaveHax’s YouTube channel where he used a sock and cat litter to act as an anti-fog pouch for car windows. Simply pour the cat litter into the sock and fill it up to the ankle. Then tie a knot to secure it and then slip another sock over it to make sure it is secure. Now you can place it by your windscreen or under your seats! The pouch will absorb moisture and keep windows from fogging.
Cleaning Dusters
Just slip your hands into one of your white socks and use it to dust around the house. You can use it to clean your window shutters, blinds or any surface areas. Watch how your clean white old socks pick up all the dirt, hair and dust in just one mighty wipe! Once you have done with it, you can simply put it back in the wash and use it again.
DIY Plushies
If you are feeling creative, why not try out these no-sew sock worms where you can create your very own sock worms for your children. This is a fairly easy craft by OneLittleProject where you only need five materials. All you need are socks, elastics, googly eyes, pipe cleaner and stuffing.

Shoe Odour Eliminator
Put a mixture of baking soda, baking powder, and corn starch in a pair of cotton socks and stick in the shoes overnight to get rid of the smell.
Cup Holder Sock
Trim off just above the ankle and slip it onto the cup/tumbler to absorb any moisture.
Ice Pack
Bruised or swollen ankle? Make an ice pack and place it inside the sock to prevent freezer burn and help you recover faster.
