The One-Stop TV Guide arrives in the UK

17 May 2020 by Eileen

There’s more to watch on TV in the UK than ever before. What’s more, there’s an abundance of guides out there that are ready to tell you what’s on at any given time in the day. Fortunately, the best online TV guide in the U.S. has now launched its UK TV Guide to make things clearer. It not only features all the listings from the terrestrial and Freeview channels, but the highlights of the best streaming and catch-up services available.

The One-Stop TV Guide arrives in the UK

Terrestrial

The guide includes the listings from the five terrestrial channels: BBC2, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5. The BBC and ITV are the two most popular channels in the UK, with shows such as long-running soap operas Eastenders and Coronation Street. But there are some hugely popular shows on the other channels, too, like Gogglebox and Friday Night Dinner on Channel 4 and Australian soaps Neighbours and Home and Away on Channel 5.

Catch-Up

If you’ve missed your favorite show on terrestrial TV in the past week, you can use the relevant catch-up service. Many of the main broadcasters in the UK offer a catch-up service. They’re usually Internet-based and allow you to watch all your favorite shows on-demand. Catch-up services include BBCiPlayer, ITV, and Channel 4. Some of these services typically limit content to what’s been created especially for the broadcaster. So, you’ll find shows such as Big Brother and Hollyoaks for Channel 4, but not imported shows such as Friends, which you’d more likely find on E4. Channel 5, however, does offer a wide range of American TV movies that were shown on the channel way beyond a week.

Freeview

Freeview provides 70 TV channels and over 30 radio stations, and they don’t even require a subscription. Unlike paid subscription services, Freeview offers a way of viewing UK television without costing you a penny. While Freeview offers access to catch-up services, it also provides a number of other channels, including those provided by the main terrestrial channels, such as ITV 2 and E4.

Streaming

If you click on the Streaming tab, you’ll see a number of other listings, such as Netflix and Apple TV. Of course, Netflix is the most popular streaming service in the world and the One-Stop TV guide offers some recommendations on what to watch. Netflix produces an abundance of content to ensure there’s always something worth watching. Shows like Stranger Things and Orange is the New Black have proved that Netflix knows what it’s doing when it comes to producing television. It also has an extensive movie and documentary catalogue to keep you entertained on demand.

One-Stop TV also features a guide to what’s on Apple TV. Apple created quite a buzz when it launched its much-anticipated streaming service. And it’s a bona fide player in the streaming’s wars. Apple TV+ has invested a lot of money in creating original’s programming, as well as signing multiple studio deals, such as with independent film studio A24 and the Oprah Winfrey Network.
