In this digital age, documents and personal information are now sent through email/messaging apps and even business cards can be sent via text or messaged using your smartphone. But you must remember that human memory is terrible! How many times have you met someone, e.g. PR for the brands or in-house marketers, especially at a toy fair or blogging event, where you spend so much time talking to one another and forget their names or brand the moment you walk off. This is why having a business card is important for blogging!
I have been blogging for nearly seven years and at any opportunity, I will hand out my business card to any potential clients/PR. I even handed it out to my friends to make sure they check out my blog or watch my product review videos.
You must remember that a business card is a physical object that your potential clients/brands can take with them that keeps you or your brand from just being a name that floats around in the ether. Technology can let you down, like no power connection or no internet, but a business card won’t! They never have downtime. They are always accessible, and never have dead zones or internet outages. They can be viewed no matter where you are.
For these past seven years, I regularly get praised by my potential clients whenever they look at my business card! The fun and loud-spoken family photos have created a great impression with them.
When I first created this ET Speaks From Home brand, I had a vision that this would be a family orientated brand. So I hired a professional photographer to take family photos for us. In order to make my card stand out, I placed those photos in it and everyone just loves it. You don’t get many business cards with photographs so why not try it to stand out!
What else should you put on your card to make it stand out? Straightforward information like your name, name of your company/blog, your social media accounts, email and web page. I didn’t list my telephone number because I prefer for people to contact me through email at first. Just in case, your card falls into the hands of a prankster. They can always ask for my number via email.
Use simple fonts and white base colour of your card. So it is easier to see and they can make a note on it if required. Stick with the standard size card than having a bizarre shape or confusing design that won’t fit into a wallet or card holder. Use quality-made cards rather than a cheap print. The feel of your card will send a different message to them. Do check out for ideas. They are a specialist printing company that designs and prints bespoke presentation folders, ring binders and much more.
If you prefer not to use a photo, then consider hiring a professional graphic designer to create for you. They will know how to create an informing and professional design to suit your need and budget.
When you have the right card, you are ready to network and put them in good use for blogging!
