Insignia, the UK’s premier brand for luxury steam and hydro massage showers, has launched a digital LED Shower Head, powered by dynamo technology, to help prevent scalding in the shower. This innovative gadget measures the temperature of the water and displays it through a digital read out and coloured safety lights, giving exact control of the heat of the water.
Did you know that more than 300 people are admitted to the NHS each year, with more than two thirds being children, admitted to specialist burns service for severe scalds from hot water in their shower, bath or sink? Insignia Digital LED Shower Head is designed to give greater control and awareness over the temperature of the water you are using.
This slim lightweight chrome shower head is suitable for all shower heads with 15mm screw fitting and requires approximately 2.5 – 3.4 pressure bar for operation. It works great with pumped systems and combination boilers and should suit most UK bathrooms.
It didn’t take me too long to insert the shower head and it works instantly the moment you turn on the shower. It does not required batteries at all and the state of the art dynamo technology means the digital read outs and lights are all simply powered by your own water pressure! It is that simple! It does make a slightly noisier sound than my previous shower head, which I think is due to the dynamo working to power the LED lights, but the additional noise doesn’t bother us at all.
If it is too hot, the surrounding LEDs lights up red to warn you. This is great, especially for parents, to be able to check the temperature without scalding their children. Also we were able to check that our new shower unit is working properly without losing the temperature!
If the temperature is alright, the surrounding LED lights would light up green. It is actually recommended that your shower should be no warmer than your skin temperature to promote good skin health (around 34 to 37 degrees). If any hotter, the heat can strip the skin’s oil barrier meaning the moisture in your skin easily escapes, leading to dry and itchy skin. On the shower head, it only shows the temperature in Celsius and not in Fahrenheit.
When the LED light turns blue, it means it is too cold.
There are two settings: 47 micro jets for enhanced showering and 9 massage jets for soft showering. To adjust the settings, simply turning the knob on the shower head.
We all enjoy using this shower head, especially with the LED light! Not only does it help light up my dim shower unit, it also add colours that reflect to my plain white shower panel. It is so easy to use, lightweight and the design looks very stylish in the chrome finish. It retails at £39.95, which is very reasonably price especially for this technology. I would definitely recommend it.
