Magic Blackout Blind Review

Can you believe that summer is approaching? We all love summer but too much daylight in the evenings is not ideal for both children and adults alike as this may cause sleeplessness or interrupted sleep.

Mr K has been complaining that it’s too bright at bedtime up and that it doesn’t feel like bedtime at all. We had double layered his roman blinds but it is not helping him as the light still seeps through the material.

As a solution to such problems, the Worcester-based MAGIC WHITEBOARD™ inventor Neil Westwood has successfully launched two of their newest innovative products Magic Blackout Blind™ and the reusable Magic Notebook™.

Magic Blackout Blind ™ is a temporary window covering that blocks out all the light and even at a window’s edges. This is a great product for both of my children especially as their rooms face the sun from late afternoon to the evening.

Each roll comprises 10 x A1 perforated thin sheets (60cm by 80cm), which can be overlapped to cover larger windows or cut to size for smaller ones. I would recommend cutting the blackout sheet slightly bigger than the window to ensure you block all the light at the sides. When I first used it, I cut exactly to the size of the window. I found that I was not able to cut in a straight line and so there is some unevenness to the sides of the sheets. It’s resulted in tiny gaps of light.

It is quick and easy to apply to the window or wall as the sheets cling using static, so no adhesive is needed and it leaves no nasty marks on windows. Each sheet can be reused up to 100 times. In the day time, I simply remove the sheets and replace it at night time. If the sheet appears not to stick well, just use a dry cloth to wipe off the dirt/dust and it will be ready to use again.

Magic Blackout Blind is not only useful during the summer time, you can also use it to create a dark room for games or the exterior background of a fish tank to make the colour of fish really pop. It also works as an instant blackboard for children to chalk on, although I’d be a little cautious in case they draw off the sheet and on to the wall.

I love the fact that it is so simple to apply and remove whenever I want. I would definitely recommend it as it is great value for money and you can take it anywhere you go!
