Want to teach your children to read the time in an easy and quick way? Madam Irma have developed a new concept/method to teach young children to tell the time! They will learn it in no time! Madam Irma watches targets children aged between 3 to 6, by using colours and animals to teach them the time.
When I first saw the watch online, I was not very convinced how this would work but to my surprise, both of my children aged 5 and 7, understood within minutes of using it. They both were thrilled when they saw the watches.
Mr K loves his bright stripy rainbow colour watch and Ms C has her favourite colour pink strap watch. The watches are easy to put on by themselves. I love how independent they are with the watches. Ms C occasionally needs help to remove the watch for her. The strap and the spaces between the holes are very well proportioned. Ms C has a tiny wrist and I’m delighted that this watch fits her. She has a couple of other watches where the straps are too big and so she doesn’t wear those.
This watch comes with approximately 3 years of battery life and a 2 year warranty. It is also water resistant up to 50 meters which means children could also wear it for swimming. We have tried it while swimming and showering and it took just over an hour for the straps to dry out. The small animals pictures on the watch face will glow in the dark.
How do the colours and animals work on the watch?
Firstly, you have to teach your children to identify the 12 colours on the watch which represents an hour when the small hand points to it. The animals represent the minutes. Now just combine an animal and a colour to unleash the Madame Irma method!
For example, if you want to tell them lunch time is at 12.30 pm by telling them when the needle points to blue and cow, it is due for lunch. Or if you want them to come back in 15 minutes for story time, tell them when that they are due to come back when the long needle points to elephant.
Both of my children find it easy to follow and it is a very useful tool especially for Ms C. She hasn’t begun to learn to read a clock yet so but using this method, she is getting there. Mr K is learning time in school and he enjoys using this funky watch to complement his learning.
The watch is made in Belgium and you can get them on the Twistiti. They ship internationally, so no worries of not finding them in shop. There are five colours to choose from: original, green, blue, pink and yellow at €49. It is a reasonably priced as it’s a great quality watch and easy time teaching method.
