Recently, we added two sets of vintage fence lights at the end of the garden and it looks so pretty. Spurred on by this, we have decided to add more around the side fence to enhance the ambience of our outdoor space.
This set of outdoor string festoon lights is solar panel powered! They utilise natural sunlight to power the lithium batteries and they come with four different lighting modes to set the mood!
Each box contains a string of 15 LED bulbs, a 2W solar panel, ground spike, clamp, three sets of wall plugs & mounting screws, RF remote control with two AAA batteries, 15 cable ties, 15 hooks, one space LED bulb, 80 cm USB Type C charging cable and instructions.
The festoon lights are very lightweight and the solar panel is made from upgraded 2W polycrystalline silicon. They are IP44 rated, which are waterproof, drop-proof, unbreakable and can withstand rain, sun, wind, snow, humidity and extreme outdoor temperatures. There are 15 LED light bulbs on the string and each LED light blub is spread out approximately 60cm apart from the next one. In total, the string of light bulbs measures 9 metres long, which does not include the 3 metre extension cable to the solar panel.
The light bulbs are easy to unscrew and do not require wiring. It gives out a warm white colour with a vintage look. The bulbs can be hung up with metal hooks or fixed with cable ties. I have used the cable ties to secure the string of light bulbs by using the gap in between the wooden fence panels.
These festoon lights have four different lighting modes: Steady on, Twinkle, Slow Fade and Flash. They can be controlled via the remote control or auto mode where it will turn on when it is dusk. You can also control the timer and brightness setting via the remote control. There are three timer settings: 3 hours, 5 hours or 8 hours. There are four brightness levels (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) using the dimmer buttons.
The solar panel will take six hours of direct sunlight for the batteries to fully charge and in turn, provide eight hours of night illumination. The solar panels will require regular cleaning to ensure charging efficiency. If the solar panels are covered in bird poo or placed under a big shady tree, for example, they will not charge as efficiently. You can also use the USB charging cable to charge if it is a dark day. At the back of the panel, there are the on/off and mode buttons. You will need to turn it on in order for the light to operate during the night time and via the remote control.
They have provided three ways of securing the solar panels. It can be fixed to the ground with the ground spike, or mounted on the wall or clip. I have used clips for both solar panels as it was the easiest way to do it without breaking a sweat. They are very secure on the fence and I was able to position the panel pointing the right way up to receive the maximum amount of sunshine.
I like that I am able to fully control the lighting when I would like it to turn on or off via the remote control. Also, with four different lighting modes, it elevates the look of my garden. They would be great to use for weddings, camping, garden parties and many other outdoor occasions! They are so easy to install and I love the glow of the lighting.
