Spot The Intro Quiz Game Review

20 September 2022 by Eileen

Can you guess the music intro in just 10 seconds? Are you a genius at Pop and Rock Trivia? Spot The Intro is a brand new musical quiz game from Cheatwell Games which features music hits from the 1960s to more recent hits from the 2010s. The game needs to be played with a smartphone and uses internet data.

Spot The Intro Quiz Game Review

This game is suitable for ages 14 and above, for two players/teams or more. It comes with a vinyl record player display playing board, 640 double-sided QR code question cards (1280 great tracks), 4 playing counters and instructions. The question cards sit neatly on the plastic tray with a hole to hold the playing pieces.

The objective of the game is to be the first/fastest player or team to reach the Finish square. Besides guessing the tunes and naming the artists, each track has a special trivia question to answer too.

Spot The Intro Quiz Game question cards

All small square question cards are double-sided and each with a QR code. If you flip over, it is from another decade. For example, 1960s on one side and 1970s on the other side. The other decades are 1980s and 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, and Show Themes.

To begin, place everyone’s playing pieces on the Start rectangle. The youngest player starts first. Everyone gets to select either the specific Decade or Show Theme. The rival team member scans the selected card. It will bring you to the website to select either to play the song via Amazon, Apple, Spotify or YouTube. As we are not paid members of Amazon, Apple and Spotify, we have been using YouTube. As it is via YouTube, some of the songs will have adverts playing for 5 seconds or more before the target song. It is best to warn the players and click “Skip Ad”. This game also works well with home audio systems like Sonos and Alexa. Simply copy then paste the song into the appropriate App search field, exactly as you would with your music provider. We have neither of those systems, so we are unable to test it out. Sorry, we are Google fans here.

Now the players have 10 seconds to listen to the song. If they answer the correct song, they will score one point. They will score another point if they answer the correct artist. If they get either the song or the artist correct, the rival member will ask them the bonus question. This will earn another point if they get it correct. Players or teams will move 0 to 3 spaces depending on the number of correct answers. If a player/team reaches the Finish rectangle, the rival team will select a card for them and they have to answer the song, artist and bonus question in order to win. If you score two or less then you must await a further turn before attempting to win the game again.

We all found it fun to guess and it kept us scratching our heads. The YouTube advertisements are a bit annoying. It is quite disruptive having to wait for the advert to finish or until you can Skip Ad before we can hear the song. It should be a better experience if you are paid music subscriber. We found some of the songs in the 60s and 70s quite tricky. Given the broad selection of decades, this should appeal to a wide range of audience ages and would be better played in teams. This game is available from Amazon.
