MasterChef Italian Game Night Review

3 April 2022 by Eileen

Are you up for a food invention challenge where you use limited ingredients to create the most memorable dish of the night? Here is your chance to prove your skills by getting the best ingredients from winning a series of mini-games, before revealing the final food-theme challenge to win the whole game.

masterchef italian game night review

To coincide this week with the brand new MasterChef UK 2022 series on BBC One, I have received this Italian Game Night board game for review. As the name suggests, this game is inspired by the Italian theme cuisine, but there are also Indian and Green vegetarian theme cuisine games. Anyway, this board game is suitable for a group of three to four players and players aged 14 & above.

This board game comes with 70 ingredient cards, 70 mini-game cards, 1 scoring board, 4 MasterChef apron characters with stand, 4 cardboard plates, 12 scoring tokens, 1 card stand, 1 card table cloth and notepad.

Before playing the game, put the Challenge cards aside for later use as it is for the final gameplay. Shuffle the ingredient and mini-game cards. Turn as many ingredient cards from the deck as there are players. Cover the mini-game cards with the card table cloth. Each player gets their own character pieces and a set of scoring tokens.

The aim of the game is to collect ingredient cards by competing in a series of mini-games. Once you have collected eight ingredient cards each, it is time for the final challenge. There are a total of five different types of mini-games – Word Scramble, First Letters, Spaghetti Mess, How Many and Oui Chef.

Due to Ms C’s eye condition, we had to adjust the game rules for these mini challenges. Ms C was not able to respond quickly due to being unable to see the letters on the card. There are too many white backgrounds and font sizes are too small for her. She has to use size 24 font size. To play the mini-games, we gave her the chance to view the card first before passing it over to us.

First, you have to play six mini-games, then pick up the challenge card to reveal the theme and play a further two more mini-games. In each mini-game, whoever is the first to answer, places their playing pieces on the scoring board. They will get to pick their favourite ingredient card, followed by the second, third and last players. In total, you should have eight ingredient cards to end the mini-games. You are then required to place your best ingredient cards on your plate frame to fit the description on the challenge card to win the points. Each player will judge and give their scoring tokens (One, two & three points) to other players’ plates according to what they feel it deserves. Whoever scores the most points get crowned the MasterChef of Game night.

MasterChef Italian Game Night final challenge

We find this game challenging, entertaining and straightforward. We are always learning something new, especially as none of us are experts in food and some of us are very bad at spelling! Thanks to Tactic Game for filling our weekends with challenges! This is a game that we will play again and again with friends! There is always something you will not know! We’re big fans of MasterChef in this household and I think this game will appeal to all MasterChef fans too! This game is available to buy from The Range.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
