How To Make Delicious Coffee at Home

31 May 2021 by Eileen Leave a Comment

These days more and more people begin to make their own coffee at home. However, they immediately face a lot of challenges on their way. How to make coffee? What to use? What do they need to have or to learn? Lots of questions run through a person’s mind once they start shopping for coffee appliances and more. So let’s start with the obvious here. There are dozens of ways to make good coffee at home. You’ll just have to find which method suits your taste most.

How To Make Delicious Coffee at Home

Of course, it takes time and experience to learn what you personally find delicious. However, once you have discovered your true coffee love (at least for the time being), you need to learn how to make it the right way. So here is a brief guide on how to make delicious coffee at home. You are welcome.

Decide on the type of coffee

Let’s start with the very beginning. Before learning how to make coffee, you need to learn what kind of coffee you like. Hence, you should go out and try different types of coffee that were brewed in various ways. These days, there are multiple ways you can make coffee at home.

There are two main types of coffee. Filter coffee and espresso. Both types will require different treatment of the beans and different makers. For example, you can make espresso with an espresso machine, in a Moka pot, or in a jezve. All three methods will leave you with three different cups of coffee with a unique taste. Each method will have special requirements and instructions. You can order various types of coffee in a local coffee shop to see which one you’d prefer.

Treat your coffee beans well

Coffee without coffee beans is just hot water, right? So, you need to learn how to buy the best beans on the market. First of all, see what type of beans you’d like better. You can go with Arabica coffee beans or Robusta beans. Both are widely present on the market. Arabica is the most common choice among coffee lovers. It’s used for all kinds of coffee, from espresso to filter.

Robusta, on the other hand, is mostly used for making espresso. It has a more bitter, strong taste. It also has more caffeine in its beans, making it a perfect match for a good cup of espresso.
Once you have the beans, you should learn to take good care of them. It’s better to buy whole beans and grind them right before using. Beans don’t do well when they are exposed to air and sunlight for too long.

Do the right measurements

Coffee, like most cooking, is more of a science than art. Hence, you have to be precise and consistent in your coffee-making process. Everything has to be measured, checked, and done in a proper way. That is why you need to buy some special tools before you begin. You’ll need a coffee grinder. Beware that a manual grinder is preferable since it makes a more even grind. You’ll also need a kettle, an airtight container for the beans, a kitchen scale, and a coffee maker of your choice.

Let’s look at the example. Here’s how you’d need to make coffee in a French press.

The beans

First, you have to use the right amount of coffee beans for the number of cups you plan to prepare. You can use the common suggestion on how much beans you should use or use a trial and error method. Secondly, you have to grind your beans the right way, which is coarse, even grind. Beans that are too finely ground will not do well in a French press.

Water

Next, you’ll need to add the right amount of water to your French press, which is about a 1:12 ratio. Pouring just any amount over your beans will make your coffee either too strong or completely tasteless. You can use a coffee to water ratio calculator to measure how much hot boiling water you should add, depending on how many cups you plan to make.

Time

At last, you should set a timer and let your coffee brew the exact amount of time it requires. Usually, it takes about three minutes. After this time, you should feel free to pour your coffee in your cups, leave it to cool for a minute, and enjoy its delicious taste.

The bottom line

Some people may think that the need to stick to the rules, in this case, can be difficult. We assure you that it is not. Making coffee by following all of the rules and the right measurement can be a beautiful morning ritual. It won’t be long when you learn all the measurements by heart and feel very comfortable making your coffee by yourself at home.
