8 Things In Kitchen Design That Are Least Paid Attention To

3 November 2020 by Eileen

Kitchen is one of the most crucial and frequently used parts of a home. Even minor mistakes in design can backfire and lead to the loss of money and time. Before designing one should carefully plan each detail to avoid the stress later on.

Whether you are designing a traditional or modern style kitchen, there are several mistakes commonly observed in kitchen designs. These include poor utilization of space, choosing poor quality items, ignoring work triangles etc.

8 Things In Kitchen Design That Are Least Paid Attention To But Which Matter A Lot

Let’s see how much the little details matter in kitchen design:

1. Floor Layout

To design a perfect kitchen, it is important that the design of the floor be planned by keeping in mind all the necessary requirements; colour, material, tile size, orientation of the tiles etc. Moreover, the entry should not be too small if there is low space available. It should also be kept in mind that the kitchen is the most used place in the house therefore its size should not be compromised. Wall spacing should also be kept to minimum to obtain extra space.

2. Storage Space

The key to a perfect kitchen design is utilizing all the available space. One of the common mistakes is one does not include pantry in the design. A tall pantry can help in utilizing the space as well as provides good storage for the kitchen items. It also helps to arrange the items as per our will and saves us from the daily mess. One should also not underestimate the space one requires for storage.

3. Ventilation

There is smoke and many smells, which can also be pungent sometimes. It is important to include proper ventilation in the kitchen. This will help to prevent the spread of smoke and smell to the rest of the house but also will be ventilated through the kitchen quickly. It will also make it easier to cook food in the kitchen especially in summers to reduce heat.

4. Paint

Right color and quality of the paint is also very crucial in the design of the kitchen. There is water and heat in the kitchen moreover oil also leaves its marks in the kitchen. Therefore, you should make the right choice of choosing the right wall paint for your kitchen which is suitable and which withstands the rough conditions.

5. Homes Character

The kitchen design should be in line with the character of the home. It should not be different in style to that of the style of the home. The design of the kitchen should complement the home rather than clash with it.

6. Backsplash

Backsplash is a tiny design detail that is practical and will also improve your kitchen design. They provide protection to the kitchen’s wall but also improve the appearance of the kitchen. Cleaning of backsplash is easy and helps in maintaining the tidy look. Backsplash is treated as an accessory and not a necessary item in the kitchen but it sure increases functionality and character in your kitchen.

7. Windows And Lighting

Windows should be properly designed as they provide proper ventilation and natural light during daytime. They should be properly treated and it should be convenient to open and close them. If you do not have proper windows and lighting in your kitchen, you will end up preparing and cooking meals and cleaning up in shadow.

8. Garbage Disposal

Proper space for garbage should be kept in mind while designing the kitchen. You wouldn’t want to cook in a smelly kitchen which has a pile of rotten veggies and fruits. As most people do not keep this in mind which results in mess and unpleasant smell in the kitchen.

To conclude one can say if you keep in mind the above stated mistakes, you can avoid trouble in using your kitchen. It will make it easier to prepare food. Moreover, it will prevent the wastage of time, money and energy. So, what is keeping you from updating your outdated kitchen?
