6 Ways to Personalise Your New Home

4 June 2020 by Eileen

Make your home stand out in 2020 with your own unique custom design. Top architects can help you create self builds if you want to start from scratch. If not, there are many upgrades you can make to your new place a little more your own. There are little details you can add as well to brighten up the place. By adding some personal touches, you’ll give your home an exclusive appeal. Here are six ways to personalise your home.

6 Ways to Personalise Your New Home

Start from scratch

If you’re interested in building a completely new property look into Self Build Architects. Starting from scratch means you have the freedom to create a unique and personal design. If your building from scratch it’s important to think carefully about the materials you want and decide on a realistic budget.

Custom floors

There are plenty of unique ideas for custom flooring, that don’t compromise on style. Glass tiling can be used to create beautiful and individual mosaic designs which will certainly add value to your house. Linoleum is back in style as well and available in a variety of colours and patterns, so you can choose which reflect your personality and taste.

Nostalgia

If you’re looking for a simple way to decorate your house in a more personal way, add items and pictures that remind you of your childhood. You can leave out whimsical stuffed animals, or put up family photos in a collage.

Personal artwork

If you’re feeling brave enough, why not create some art yourself? You can go to a painting or drawing workshop to learn the basics if you’re not an expert. If you don’t feel up to it yourself, why not ask a friend with a more artistic touch? Something more personal will definitely add a lot of character and sentimental value. You could create a piece out of recycled household items, or photos, if you’re not feeling very inspired.

Upcycling

Overspending on lavish or ostentatious furniture is not the done thing anymore. If you really want to show off your living space, you’ve got to decorate it yourself with recycled materials. Get creative by refurbishing with used fabrics. Choose your favourite designs to spruce up your chairs, sofas, bedding, and cushions. Upcycling is trending massively this year. If you’re feeling able to psych yourself up for a bit of a project why not give it a go? Get your friends to join in or look for a group near you, if you need a little bit of help or inspiration.

A touch of greenery

Nothing adds life to a room more than plants or flowers. There are plenty of low maintenance options if you’re not naturally green-thumbed. What used items around your house can you turn into a vase or a plant pot? You can find more inspiration online.

Personalising your home is a great project for the summer and you can the whole family involved. The more effort you make decorating your new home, you more it will feel like your own.
