Four simple tasks to add some colour to your living room

6 March 2020 by Eileen

Do you sometimes walk into your living room and just feel deflated? Sometimes it can feel like ground hog day and inspiration evades you – but don’t despair! Here are four easy tasks that can help you breathe a new lease of life into your living room – without blowing the budget!

Of course, you could set about knocking down walls, completely redecorating the room or changing the entire style of your home to get that ‘refreshed’ feel, but that can be expensive and time consuming. Sit back and get ready to be inspired, these simple tricks will have you falling back into love with your living room in no time at all.

Four simple tasks to add some colour to your living room

1 – A Lick of Paint

An obvious one to begin with, and possibly the one that requires the most effort, but this can truly transform your living room. You can go full hammer and tongs and paint the walls and skirting boards and ceiling, but the easiest and fastest way to refresh the room is to paint one wall. Creating a feature wall draws the eye and provides you with new opportunities to accessorise in relation to the new colour palette.

2 – Rearrange Your Furniture

Rearranging your furniture provides a great opportunity to add some colour to your living room. The first thing it can do is add space or open up areas that were previously hidden. This gives you the chance to add a rug or throw. You may also find more natural light is able to enter the room if chairs or shelves are moved.

3 – New Window Furnishings

Perhaps you’ve moved the winged-back chair and discovered daylight now steams unobstructed into your room – but now it’s getting in your eyes and you can’t see your TV screen. A new blind is a great way to take back control and simultaneously introduce some colour, and they’re really easy to buy online from retailers like DotcomBlinds.

There’s a whole variety of blinds out there, from roller blinds to roman blinds, vertical to venetian, so you’ll find something that suits you and your room and draw focus to your window.

4 – Go Green

House plants are a really easy way to get some fresh, relaxing green tones into your room, create a pleasant aroma and atmosphere, and when they bloom; bedazzle you with their beauty. You can add as many house plants as you like, just make sure they’re safe around animals and children, and dot them all over the room. There are so many you’ll find some that prefer direct natural light and others that don’t so you wont need to worry too much about their location.
