The Xalm Blanket Review

5 August 2019 by Eileen

Are you suffering from stress or want a better sleep? Have you thought about getting a weighted Xalm blanket to help you sleep better? It had not occurred to me that sleeping with a weighted blanket on myself would make such a big difference to my sleep.

The Xalm Blanket Review

For my first try, I got an immediate result and felt I had better quality sleep. I tend not to fall asleep very quickly but I did! To be honest, I should have known about this concept. When my firstborn, Mr K, was a couple of days old, my mother bought a ‘small bag’ containing a weighted blanket to cover his chest. The weighted blanket helped to stop him from fidgeting and to have a better sleep. The weight of the blanket is to help you feel more relaxed and wash away stress.

Xalm was founded in 2018 by two entrepreneurs Eddy & David Barrett. They wanted to bring a product that they could see was changing peoples lives for the better in the USA here to the UK. Now UK residents can purchase the weighted blankets on Xalm Blanket or the Amazon website! I am thrilled to try them out, especially as I have been quite stressful since the house move, with my son going to big school in September and daughter’s application to big school coming up soon – we very much need a holiday to visit my family!

When I first received the blanket in the box, it felt extremely heavy! I didn’t really give it any thought when I ordered it. I had the 6.8kg blanket which is ideal for people who weigh between 56 to 79kg. I was very worried that I would be hot and uncomfortable in such a heavy weighted blanket, especially as my duvet is 11 tog.

Surprisingly, once I snuggle under the blanket, it doesn’t feel heavy at all! The weight of the blanket is very well distributed around my body. The blanket measures 150cm by 200cm. It is for one person and not meant to share.

When I unpacked the box, the blanket was already placed inside the soft grey minky cover. There are strings tied to each corner. The stitching on the blanket and cover are brilliant and they are very nicely finished all around. There is not a loose thread in sight, no lumpiness to the filling and no hard edges at all. The blanket is made to a really high standard. The minky cover is washable and a Xalm Blanket bamboo cover is available to buy for hot weather. Can you believe that we are having flooding during summertime! Yes, indeed hence the minky cover is perfect for me now that the summer has turned cold. I also love the grey colour cover. It looks modern and matches other items and furnishings we have in our home.

I have tried it for just under a week and I could feel the benefits right from the start. It is very comfortable and cosy to sleep in. The only downside is I am sharing the king size bed with my husband and sometimes the blanket will drop to my side and it is quite heavy to pick back up when I am still asleep. I don’t like to tuck myself into the blanket. If was to sleep alone, then this blanket size would be perfect for the bed.

If you are having problems with your blankets, they suggest you to try these steps below to get your body used to the weight by slowly introducing the blanket for a few minutes to hours a day. Of course, if you are not happy at all, you can get a full refund under their 100 night guarantee.

Overall I enjoyed using the blanket. It is comfortable with great weight distribution all round and it helped me get to sleep quickly. I think this blanket is great for people who are having a hard time sleeping and looking for a natural way to get to sleep. It is available to buy on their website and Amazon.
