Staccups Stacking Game Review

26 March 2019 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Staccups by University Games is a simple and fast cup stacking game that will appeal to the young and old! The rules are simple! All you need to do is to match the top and base to win the race! This speed and hand-eye coordination game is suitable for aged eight and above. It is for two to four players.

Staccups Stacking Game Review

Inside the box, you get 32 brightly coloured shot-sized plastic cups and a podium stand spinner to stack them on. Refreshingly, no batteries required! It requires assembly of the cup tops to the bases as shown on the box. Do follow the picture and don’t try to match the same coloured tops with the same coloured bases! The cup tops sit tightly on the base once fixed so try not to make a mistake or you might snap one of the pins of the tops. The instructions are printed on the back of the box so there’s less chance of you losing it!

There are three variations of playing this game: Normal, Advanced and the Strategy game. To play the normal game, each player starts with the same number of cups. Each player has to stack the cups matching the base colour to the previous top colour. Players have to beat their opponents to clear their cups. If there is one moment of hesitation, it could all be over as the colour can change in a split second. If you think your opponent has cheated or made a mistake, you can call him/her out and check. I do find it hard to catch anyone out when I myself can’t even react quick enough. The only time I can catch anyone cheating is when I am not playing. Nevertheless, it helps players to improve their hand-eye coordination by using two hands instead of one and also improve their minds!

We all can be quite competitive and slightly brutal to the cups! Luckily the cups are well-made. Personally, I do find the cups are a bit too small and smooth for my liking. The cups have been known to fly everywhere when we have all gone a bit mad!

This game is definitely a fun one for all ages because players have fairly even odds of winning, whatever their age. Staccups is available to purchase at good toy retailers and Amazon.
