This Meccano Formula 1 Ferrari kit comes with 362 durable metal parts, including stickers, pose-able steering, 2 ergonomic tools and easy-to-follow instructions. Mr C was so happy when he saw this Ferrari SF71H kit. As an avid fan of Formula 1, he loves everything to do with the cars and the racing so he was excited to start building as soon as he got it.
It is suitable for aged 10 and above. It is perfect for children with an interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) principles, helping to build their critical thinking and creative processes. This set is a level 3 intermediate complexity.
This set takes three to five hours to build which is a great way to spend some quality family time together with your child. If you have not built a Meccano set before, I would suggest you to try out their beginner set instead. This set is slightly complicated with a lot of fine details to be built. My son did struggle to build this and I struggled to get some of the small parts into the right area.
This was not our first time building a Meccano set (Meccano Lamborghini Huracan Spyder & 10-in-1 model Rally Racer with Meccablock Motor) and we were all aware that it can be quite fiddly with small parts even for an adult. It requires a lot of focus and concentration. In addition to the tools provided, I used a pair of forceps to place the nuts and other small parts together. If you don’t have these, long nose pliers might be a good alternative too.
This set comes with four individual packets which we placed into small bowls to keep them separate and easy to find. The step-by-step instructions are very detailed and we love that the instructions show the exact scale of the screws to be able to easily identify them. It also comes with flexible plates that make it easier to bend for the various curvatures of the car.
This is the first set that we’ve come across that requires you to stick stickers on to the metal parts etc. However, when I stuck the stickers on the metal part and then place the screw on it, I seemed to screw too tight and it ruined the surrounding stickers. I would suggest that when you try to tighten the screw, check that you have not accidentally tightened the screw too tightly.
It took us over four hours to build because as mentioned, it is an intermediate complexity build. There are some intricate steps that require some perseverance but once built, the car looks spectacular with authentic decals that help achieve the signature Ferrari look! I love all the details, especially the patterns on the front wing and rear wing. This car definitely gives us a sense of achievement!
I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good challenge and is a big fan of Ferrari. It is definitely a great Formula 1 car that will appeal to little or big Ferrari fans! You can buy it in good toy stores and Amazon.
