Atlas Obscura Explorer’s Guide Review

18 October 2018 by Eileen

Atlas Obscura Explorer’s Guide is a children book packed with fascinating facts and evocative illustrations of unusual, hidden wonders. This hardback book is suitable for children aged eight to twelve years old. It is written by Dylan Thuras and Rosemary Mosco, beautifully illustrated by Joy Ang and published by Workman at £8.99.

Atlas Obscura Explorer's Guide review

We love and adore this book so much. Not just because of its beautiful illustrated cover (never judge a book by its cover), but because of the well-written contents that are packed full of interesting stories! There are so many places to explore in this world and not everyone will have the chance to embark on these journeys of a lifetime. Through the book, my children and I are able to travel to 47 countries with 100 of the world’s most mysterious and mesmerising places.

This book includes explorer’s tips, themed recommendations for planning your own travel route and a full-colour world map at the back of the book. There are two useful things that I have picked up from this packing list which are the satellite phone and solar charger. They are definitely great gadgets wherever you are!

Atlas Obscura Explorer's Guide contents

One of the things I love about this book is that it hopscotches from country to country in a daisy chain of connecting attractions. It does not just follow a simple and straight road to your next destination. For example, one minute, you are reading about Skeleton Lake in India and the next minute, you are standing at the edge of a steep gorge, staring down at the Apurimac River in Peru. They have included so many interesting and amazing expeditions!

I love reading this book with my children and we find it very educational and we are learning something new every day! I would recommend this book and it is available to buy now from good book retailers and Amazon.
