Are you looking for a more responsive and sleek-looking laptop that won’t break your bank? This brand new Acer Swift 3 just has it all! It looks, feels and performs like a top of the range laptop at a very affordable price.
This is all thanks to its new Optane Memory and it is powered by Intel’s latest eighth-generation Core i5 processor. This is a mid-tier laptop that should suffice for most everyday users, whether you’re working or playing, it should perform your tasks with speed and ease.
Intel’s Optane Memory is a new memory cache (16GB) that can improve system performance. Its clever software learns how you use the laptop and stores frequently used applications and data. The net result is the laptop boots more quickly, programs load and run faster without delay.
In my video, I will show you how fast it boots up Windows, launch applications, run speedy file search, load large files and media files, timing with a stopwatch. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/xFz07DhvNjE
Compared to my two year old laptop, the Swift 3 only took 13 seconds to boot Windows 10, whilst my laptop took 30 seconds. This shows the Optane Memory it’s worth having!
For each initial run, it does take a more ‘normal’ time to boot up/open any programs or applications. But after that, it is shockingly fast. Just watch my video and see for yourself!
I think I have told you enough about Optane Memory cache and processor. Now let’s take a look at the laptop itself. I am well impressed with the brushed metallic silver chassis finish. It has a very high-end, premium finish with no sharp or rough edges anywhere. It is slim and has excellent build quality.
It has a 15.6 inch matt screen with thin bezels which makes for an overall footprint not much bigger than an average 14 inch screen laptop. It has a high definition IPS (in-plane switching) display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels.
The connectivity options include an SD media card reader, USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, USB Type-C 3.1 port and HDMI port. The only thing some people might miss is the DVD player. To be honest, I don’t use DVDs these days, so this is not something I will miss.
Two other nice features that this laptop has is a fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard. The fingerprint reader means you can use Windows Hello to log in quickly and the backlit keyboard means you can continue typing in dimly lit rooms. This is something I didn’t have it on my old laptop and I find this so useful! It will switch itself off if the keyboard is idle to conserve power.
The manufacturer claims that this is capable of up to 10 hours running on battery. So far the battery has performed quite well with all the initial setup, installing programs and many more. In between work, I have used it to play Candy Crush and Solitaire games. The battery life did go down more quickly when playing games but that is a common thing even for the best laptops under 800 dollars. So far I’m averaging about 6 hours or more on a full charge.
This Acer Swift 3 is great value for money and with this 8th Gen processor and Optane Memory, it is a great performing laptop. It is available to buy from good electronic retailers and online. For more information about this, please visit: http://www.intel.co.uk/upgrade
