Concept Game Review

4 June 2018 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Concept is a party game and the goal of the game is to guess words or phrases through the association of icons on the game board without using sound or speech. It is suitable for aged 10 and above, and for four to ten players. The game can be played as individuals or in teams.

The game comes with 110 cards, game board, 5 sets of pawns and cubes, victory tokens, 4 piece of player game aids, 1 storage bowl and instructions.

Setting up the game is very straightforward. Place the board in the centre of the table within reach of every player. Shuffle the deck of Concept cards and place it face down. The Concept cards have nine words/phrases to choose from. It is recommended that you choose an Easy word when you first play the game. The cards are divided into Easy, Hard and Challenging. Each level has three different words to choose from.

Now place the pawns and cubes in the bowl and place the victory tokens (lightbulb-shaped) within reach. For the score, the first player to find the correct word/phrases will receive 1 double lightbulb token while each member of the team whose word/phrases receive 1 single lightbulb. If you want, you can grant more points for guessing more difficult ideas. The game ends when 12 double lightbulb tokens have been claimed or players who have scored the most tokens win the game.

We find this game is straightforward and simple to understand but it can be quite challenging when the other players have a different way of interpreting the words/phrases. We love that this game encourages the players to be imaginative and gets them to make associations with the icons.

The board game pieces are made with good quality materials and should last for a long time. We all enjoyed this game and love the concept of this word guessing game. I would definitely recommend it. It is available to buy in good toy retailers and Amazon.
