Prezzo LaFamiglia Challenge

1 June 2017 by Eileen

Last week was our first time visiting the brand new Prezzo restaurant at Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield. In fact, it was also our first time visiting the Prezzo restaurant chain which has more than 280 restaurants across the UK in all different shapes and sizes ranging from old libraries to harbour side eateries taking in the view.

Thanks to Britmums, we were invited to take up their Prezzo La Famiglia Challenge which celebrates the new La Famiglia sharing pasta bowl and the joys of trying dishes as a family. We all love Italian food especially pizza and spaghetti! Who doesn’t love this comfort food?

This brand new Prezzo restaurant had just opened earlier this year with plenty free parking for up to 3 hours. It is located in a new hot spot in Mulberry Walk and is very easy to find. We were shown to our table very quickly by their staff and were offered drinks. As part of this challenge, we were offered to try out their new La Famiglia sharing dish –a choice of a bowl of Penne Arrabiata, Spaghetti Bolognese, Spaghetti Carbonara or Penne Alla Rusticana that is big enough to feed up to four people. Also large garlic breads, ice creams and drinks for all.

We started with two large garlic breads with a choice of plain garlic or cheese and onion. We went for both flavours. After trying out the cheese and onion flavour, I don’t think I would ever want a plain garlic bread again. Not that the plain is bad, but just that the cheese and onion stone baked garlic bread was so delicious. The crusts were crispy and the fillings were sweet and creamy. We all enjoyed them very much. As they were quite big portions for us, we had to ask for some of it to go to ensure it didn’t spoil our main course.

Our main was the Spaghetti Carbonara La Famiglia sharing dish in a nice big bowl that was big enough to feed all of us. We were each given a small dish, serving spoon and tongs to serve the portions we wanted.

In a typical Chinese meal, we often share our dishes in one single large bowl so this is not something new to us. I very much prefer this way of serving food as we can control each portion by and contaminating the rest of the food. Ms C is a small eater and so we didn’t have to eat her leftover food from her plate. Mr K is a big eater and meat lover so we could give him his correct the portion.

The only problem with sharing dishes is that we all have to agree with the flavour of the dish which we did as a family. We all had to try to be considerate to each person’s tastes. The Spaghetti Carbonara was very well cooked and flavoursome with crispy prosciutto. The spaghetti had a nice bite but the Pancetta is slightly chewy for our liking. They also offer gluten free option by serving it with Fusilli pasta.

We then end our meal with yummy ice cream and sorbet. Mr K and I had the chocolate and sea salt gelato with blood orange sorbet while Mr C had the chocolate ice cream and Melon sorbet. The sorbet was great for cleansing our palate but the ice cream had won us over. It was smooth and creamy! We had a great time eating at Prezzo restaurant and would go back again. The rest of their menu options will surely have something for everyone and so they make a great choice for a great meal out. Once again, I would like to thanks Britmums for this opportunity to try out Prezzo restaurant.
