Wine Suggestions for Father’s Day

19 May 2017 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Are you still looking for ideas for this Father’s Day? Why not get the father in question a bottle of wine that both of you can enjoy on the special day? I am not a wine expert but having tried numerous types, I have a few up my sleeve that definitely won’t break the budget!

Wine Suggestions for Father’s Day

My first recommendation has to be Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon. This full flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon is from selected vineyards in South Australia, the heartland of Wolf Blass. The blackcurrant flavours, subtle oak and fine tannins deliver a superbly balanced palate. It is very easy to drink and Mr C has been drinking it for years. This is always his top choice. This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 2 years. It costs less than £10 per bottle.

For white wine, we love Barefoot Chardonnay! They are from California, United States. It is bursting with flavours of fuji apples, ripe peaches and a hint of honey. They definitely make the perfect partner to seafood, chicken and cheeses. This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 1 year.

The next recommend wine is Mateus Rose. This young, fresh, fruity and versatile wine is from Portugal. It comes in a unique bottle that is not hard to miss. It is great for aperitifs, oriental & Italian food, barbecues, salads, and shellfish.

My next favourite is Freixenet Mia sparkling Moscato wine! The first time we came across this fresh, light, very fruity and sweet wine was three years ago. We were sent a couple of bottles for review and ended up winning the cocktail party where we sampled three different kinds of cocktails using Freixenet. The Mia Moscato (7% alcohol) is lovingly crafted by Gloria Collell who uses the Tank Method to ensure premium quality and exceptional flavour. Gloria has taken inspiration from the vibrancy and colour of her home town, Barcelona. It is so easy to drink – it has a delicious fruity blend of peach and ripe apricot. My husband and I love this wine and we have been known to polish one off between us on a ‘school’ night! I would definitely recommend it!

My last recommendation is Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Champagne from France. This has fresh and floral aromas with subtle white fruits such as apples and pears. On the palate dry, it has a creamy texture with sweet citrus fruit flavours. This is the perfect champagne for aperitif and ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 3 years. This is definitely a great champagne to celebrate this Father’s Day. If your celebrating with a large group of people and looking to buy a few bottles its worth trying to find champagne case offers online which will help keep the costs down on this luxury drink.

Now, if you wanted to learn more about wine but don’t have time or people to go with, then you should try Sip & Learn. Every month you will receive two bottles of wine as well as a comprehensive (but fun and superbly designed) educational booklet to start learning all about wine. Read the wine testing box subscription here.

If you bought the wine as a gift, instead of popping it into a wine bag, why not give your gift a personal touch by wrapping it up nicely to impress your family and friends? Perhaps Perfect Gift Wrapping Ideas book from Tuttle Publishing will give you more ideas on how to wrap it. You can read more about the book here.

You can get them directly from the publisher’s website or on Amazon. Here are the links from Amazon:
