Chinese State Circus Review

14 May 2017 by Eileen

After a break of three years, the internationally acclaimed Chinese State Circus have returned to the UK in an innovatively spectacular new production – “DYNASTY”. They are currently touring in the UK. Their next events are at Shrewsbury, Hazel Grove, Wallasey, Liverpool, Kendal and Greenock. “DYNASTY” projects into a contemporary setting an art form that has thrilled audiences for more than 2,000 years where low-tech everyday objects are transformed into hi-tech acrobatic equipment. Stunning world class Chinese acrobats, aerial artistes and jugglers interact with the super-human physical skills and dexterity of the masters of martial arts – the legendary Shaolin Warriors.

We have been to all different types of circus shows like the American and Moscow but not the Chinese circus. This was our first time and I was on edge and so nervous for them as every moment was nail-biting! This Chinese State Circus is truly breathtaking and very unique. We were very impressed with their physical skills and all their outstanding acts.

Chinese State Circus juggling

From juggling bowls to hats, and to balancing loads of umbrellas and chairs, from riding bicycles to acrobats on a swing! It is non-stop action from start to finish! The first half of the show is approximately an hour long followed by a 15 minutes interval and then 45 minutes for the second half.

My children’s favourite act of the show were the male acrobats on the swing and jumping and tumbling through the rings. My favourite part was the female acrobat balancing six umbrellas on her lower limbs and spinning umbrellas with both hands while on her back! Her skills were extremely impressive. We all enjoyed the circus show and love that every artiste performed to such a high standard. Check out their next show if it is near you!

It’s been so long since I’ve been to the circus. It seems very interesting.
