Kurio Smart Watch Review

22 November 2016 by Eileen

KD UK have recently launched their newest addition to its Kurio range of child safe technology, the Kurio Smart Watch.  Now children can enjoy this innovative product in a multitude of ways including gaming, education and social communication through the multifunctional touch screen.  It features a customisable interface, 256 MB of internal memory, a high quality camera and video recorder.

The watch is available to buy at Smyths Toys, Argos, F.Hind and Amazon and it comes in two colours: pink and blue.  It is suitable for aged six onwards.  It has a micro SD card slot giving users the option to add up to 32 GB of memory.

Both of my children were thrilled to receive these and have been playing with it since.  They love their watches and they are comfortable to wear.  The strap is made from silicon material and it is very flexible and smooth.

In the box, it comes with one short micro USB cable and instructions.  Setting it up is very simple.  All you need is to input your child’s name, DOB, date & time setting and I.C.E.  I didn’t set up the In Case of Emergency (I.C.E.) info as I don’t know my children’s blood type and luckily they don’t have any allergies.  So I just skipped this part and will add it when I know their blood group!  They are also able to customize their watch by choosing from 5 display themes and 5 home page themes.

There are 20 preloaded apps and games on the watch: Snake, Tic Tac Toe, Air Music, Battleship, Motion Maze, Motion Sport, Voice Changer, Translator, Photo Retouch, Drawing, Activity Tracker, Alarm Clock, Timer, Calendar, Calculator, Reminder and Contact List.  The motion sensor feature enables children to play the games simply by using their wrist movements.

If you have two Kurio Watches, you can connect them via using the built-in Bluetooth technology to play games and message!  The two games that allow multi-players are Tic Tac Toe and Battleship.

We had no problems getting both devices to link up.  We have even connected their watches with our Android phones.  My husband has downloaded the Kurio Messaging app in order for my children to send messages to him through text, photos, emoji’s, drawings and voice.  Note though that you can only receive messages when both devices’ Bluetooth is on and connected, and you are not connected to any other device.  This is the same with phone calls.  My children was able to phone my mobile phone when the watch is paired with my phone.  The on-board speaker allows them to make a hands free call.

It comes with a front facing camera, so that your children can take their own selfies and share pictures of themselves.  With the photo editor, they will be able to add cool designs to them!

This watch is very easy to use and navigate. Swipe from top down for quick access to flashlight, camera, Bluetooth, volume and I.C.E. Info. The screen will go off and quite quickly if not in use to save battery.  At the moment, they have been playing with it quite heavily to play games and music, so we’re charging it daily. I would definitely recommend this. Both of my children love it and they love being able to send secret messages to each other.  For more information, please visit: www.kurioworld.com/k/uk/parents/products/watch
