Teksta Toucan Review

17 October 2016 by Eileen

Teksta Toucan is a highly intelligent life-like interactive robotic bird that can tell you jokes, play games and can even perform magic tricks to keep his owner entertained.  This electronic animal sits on his perch and moves his head, wings, body and back for ultimate engagement.

This is suitable for aged five and above. It requires 4 AA batteries which are not included in the set. After unpacking from the box, turn the Toucan to the correct, centre position.

There are two options of play: normal, using him as a standalone toy with his multiple pre-programmed features; or with further content downloaded from a free app that will lead to more comprehensive responses.

To play normal or when you don’t have your smart phone with you, switch him to LP (Low power mode) and press the On button. You can talk to him, walk in front of him, have him make funny sounds, dance to music or go to sleep. He is quite responsive at times but occasionally he didn’t do what we asked him to do.  Mr K did find that this mode is less appealing to him as he prefers his robotic bird to be able to do more with him like play games. Hence he prefers to use his smart device to communicate with Toucan.

The second mode is to download the free app which is available in App store or Google Play. Once you download the app, it requires you to switch him to BT (Bluetooth) and then press the On button. I am very pleased that they are using Bluetooth instead of Wifi.  It is so much easier to play with Toucan without the internet.  We downloaded the app and it very easy and intuitive to use with Toucan. Once it is connected, he can do all the same features but with more comprehensive responses.

Via the app, there are a list of questions, you can ask your Toucan and his responses are hilarious. Mr K and I had fun playing with him. He could even do a vampire impression. Mr K also loves playing darts with him. At the moment, there is only one game to play with him and I do hope they will expand it and add more games.

Next is that he is able to do a magic trick by guessing the correct number. Sometimes he gets it right, sometimes he doesn’t.  Even though the result is not consistent, his answer is always very funny.

My children prefer to play with him via the app itself as they can get more comprehensive responses and hilarious answers. He does get quite noisy when he flaps around.  He is available to buy from Character Online and good toy retailers.

Here is video of Toucan, do take a look to see how it works: https://youtu.be/UZYXhz2o8_A
