Experience Up at The O2

29 October 2016 by Eileen

Last week, I took my children to visit the Emirates Air Line which is located at North Greenwich tube station and are not far from The O2.  When we walked past The O2, I noticed there were a group of visitors on the iconic roof of The O2.  I was excited to learn that Up at The O2 is a thrilling 90 minute experience that allows you to walk over the iconic roof of The O2, via a suspended walkway.

Up at the O2 morning

It was such a shame that I didn’t plan my last minute half term trip properly, otherwise I would have loved to have booked a visit!  I love trying unique experiences and it doesn’t get more unique than conquering The Summit of London!

If you are looking for things to do in London, or an unusual gift or an experience to do together with your family or friend, then this is a great experience to try out for some outdoor fun.

up at the o2 walkway morning

This is a guided expedition over the roof of The O2 via a fabric walkway which is suspended 2m above the surface of The O2 roof, the walkway is 52m above ground level and 380m long! At its steepest point the walkway has an incline of 28° on the way up and 30° on the way back down and has a slight bounce to it to mirror the surface of the tent. This is an experience that takes you out of your comfort zone and pits you against the elements. It’s more akin to climbing a mountain, than ascending in a lift. So be prepared to take on this challenge!

Up at the O2 evening

The O2 is an iconic London landmark, having played host to some of biggest names from music, arts and sports like Turbo Tennis which Andy Murry won and Bon Jovi. The roof of The O2 is made of acres of fibreglass, miles of wires and thousands of rivets. It’s an icon to London’s aerial identity, so to be right on top is a very unique opportunity.  At the summit, there is an observation platform where you can take in spectacular views of London.

Before you start your experience, you will meet your Climb Guide who will take you through everything you need to know and give you a climb suit, shoes and a safety harness.

There are three different Climbs to choose from: The Original Climb, Sunset Climb and Twilight Climb, plus now they have partnered with All Bar One to give you a two course meal and Climb.  Climbing at different times of the day will give you a different experience and any of these options would definitely be a memorable and exhilarating experience.

This sounds like something my husband would love. I would be too scared. I had issues going round the Treetop walkway at Kew and that is not as scary as a fabric walkway. I will keep it in mind as a gift for him, it’s a fab idea.
