Greetings to all Skylanders fans! Skylands needs your help! Kaos is back with his most diabolical scheme ever. He has constructed a powerful Doomstation, known as the Sky-Eater, and it is feeding The Darkness! Now you can defeat him using your iOS device with this portal and wireless controller.
Skylanders SuperChargers is the fifth installment in the Skylanders series. Skylanders is a role-playing platform game where toy figures are placed on the Portal of Power and come to life inside the game. The new feature is the introduction of vehicles. Half of the game consists of driving with 3 types of vehicle – ground, flying and water. You can now take on Kaos using Land, Sky and Sea vehicles.
This is a starter pack for iOS only. It is suitable for iPad 3 onwards, iPhone and iPod (minimum iOS 8). If you are unsure, please check the Skylanders website for more details. It comes with portal, wireless controller, Hot Streak, Super Shot Stealth Elf, Spitfire, poster, instructions and 5 AAA batteries for the portal and controller.
It is a really clever idea to have the controller hide behind the portal. Also there is a slot to position your iPad onto the portal. However we found this a bit hazardous as we knocked it over and the iPad came off the portal. You may place up to 3 toys on the portal.
The controller is a good size, mostly flat shape, lightweight and easy to hold. You can play online multiplayer with others by signing in to iCloud. However, this is available for my device so I did not try this.
Before you play this game, it requires you to download the free app which may take a few minutes. Once downloaded, you need to turn on Bluetooth on your device. Now run the app and turn on the portal and controller. Place your character and their vehicle on the portal to play the game. It is very easy to set up and we had no problem getting it to connect.
When you first begin your game, there is a video transmission from Kaos telling you that he has captured Master Eon, Flynn, Cali and Hugo. He tells you that he now has control of the portals and has locked you (“The Portal Master”) out of Skylands by closing all the portals and therefore relegating the Skylanders to remain.
Once Kaos ends his transmission, you receive another one from Hugo, Flynn & Cali telling you to save them and Skylands! Hugo instructs you to place a vehicle on the portal along with a Skylander so that you can travel through a rift into Skylands. It turns out that the vehicles have a Rift Engine that allows you to hack into the network of portals that connect our world and ones in Skylands. The more sky it consumes, the stronger The Darkness becomes. You must take to the Land, Sea, and Sky to stop Kaos and The Darkness before it is too late. You must avoid obstacles on the track and defeat a boss before crossing the finish line. Then solve a puzzle. Vehicles can be customised and can collect parts to upgrade them or buy them with the in-game currency.
They have introduce 20 new figurines with 20 vehicles. This is the poster of the Superchargers.
In the app, you can either choose to race or play the adventure mode. For Adventure, you can begin your Skylanders adventure in either Single Player or Co-op mode. For Racing it is to test your skills and prove who’s the greatest driver in Skylands! Chase down the greatest villains in Boss Pursuit (Requires Action Pack Trophies – sold separately) or race online with Portal Masters!
My son is super excited with Skylanders Superchargers and in no time, he completed some of the levels. The graphics are not as good as what we were used to from our PS3 Skylanders games but I guess this is to be expected with the PS3’s more powerful hardware. However, they have captured the superb playability of the older games in this updated version so for that, we would recommend it to all Skylanders fans!
