Our Family Bathroom Ideabook. We have been living in our home for eight years. We were really happy with the finish of our new build home, but over time, things began to look old and tired. We enjoy home improvement and in these eight years we have redecorated all the downstairs rooms by repainting the walls, including wallpapering some feature walls, and we also had a conservatory built. Upstairs, we repainted our bedroom and added wall murals for the kids. We have also changed various furnishings and accessories for a different look and feel to each of the rooms and also to reflect the fact that the children are growing up.
One of the last rooms that we haven’t really touched yet is the family bathroom and this is going to be our next project. As mentioned, we enjoy home improvement but we’re not very creative people. We normally need a lot of ideas and inspiration. Along those lines, one website we came across recently on bathroom design. For the bathroom, they have 33,550 photos! This is a great place to start if you are lacking inspiration or simply if you want to browse for alternative ideas. A nice feature of the website is that you can save your ideas into your own ideabook. These are some of the ideas that we’ve been inspired to include in our design:
- Bath with shower – we all love a bath on occasion, but most of the time, we will prefer to have a quick shower. This type of design will ensure we have the best of both worlds.
- Large mirror with under-mirror lighting – this will ensure we maximise the light in the room and I think the under-mirror lighting sets a really nice mood.
- Additional shelving – we have so many toiletries it’s ridiculous! We have seen a few ideas with neat shelving and storage solutions.
As well as the ideas, they have some great advice too. The two key takeaways for us is firstly to work out a realistic budget for your design ideas and stick to it, and secondly that small changes can make a big difference. We can definitely agree with this one after some of the small projects we’ve undertaken throughout the house in the past.
Feel free to share your stories if you are planning, in the process or have completed a renovation project. How did you come up with the design? What went well and what didn’t go so well?
