Vtech DigiGo Review

22 October 2015 by Eileen

We are thrilled to be part of the Vtech DigiGo Ambassador Campaign with tots100 and over the next three months, I will bring you some interesting news from Vtech.

We have received this Vtech DigiGo which is a hand held smart device for children aged 3 to 7. Both my children are pretty tech savvy and within minutes they knew exactly how to play it. It’s also helpful that we do own an InnoTAB 2 which we’ve had for a few years now.

Besides the usual features like taking photo and videos, playing learning games and using the multimedia player, this Vtech DigiGo allows your child to send and receive text or voice messages, photos, drawing and much more with (parent-approved) family and friends’ smartphone using the built in wireless connection.

This DigiGo is lightweight and comfortable to hold. It comes with a wrist strap which is always a nice feature for children. This device is robust and comes with protective, anti-shock construction. The menu and features are very self-explanatory. Both of my children are able to use it with ease.

There are 2 styluses included – one spare and one that sits nicely behind the device. I like that I can charge the device via the mains rather than use batteries like in the InnoTAB 2 for example. Now I can charge the device using the USB cable anywhere I want like via on laptop or on the go with a battery pack! It has 4GB of memory built in and you are able to use a 32GB microSD memory card with it which is sold separately. One minor point that could be improved – the silicon charging point cover often pops out by itself and it was very annoying to the children. We may resort to taking this off.

As mentioned, there are these four main features:

Message

To allow your child to send or receive any message, you would need to download the FREE app and sign on to it. Next you would need to approve the family members or friends (who had download the app on their phone and signed up) who would like to connect with your child. It is like an instant message or email for your child. It didn’t take me long to get everything sort out. It is very easy and straightforward to use. They can even record an audio message instead of writing it.

Photos & Video

It comes with a 2.0MP camera with a lens that can rotate to be front or back facing. The picture quality is not great and often I find that the photo is slightly blurred. It is quite acceptable as children won’t mind too much. My daughter has been using this to video her journey on the train and had been videoing us. She also had fun using the Wonder Cam to create funny faces of herself while travelling!

Learning Games

This come with 1 pre-loaded game, plus 2 additional apps that required you to download from the Vtech Learning Lodge upon registration. There are plenty of apps to choose from but with a fee. To download the app, you need to sign on to the WIFI and it will download the games you requested. I was also able to download the old games from my InnoTAB 2 to this device.

Multi-Media Player

If you purchased the movie/video via the app, you could watch it through the built-in speaker or using the headphones. Up until now, we have been watching the videos that Ms C had created. The video quality suffered a little as they were mostly taken with at low light. Again this is a 2.0MP camera so we can’t expect the same quality of a high-end smartphone.

Overall this is a nice device for younger children and is able to withstand rough handling. I love that this has WIFI connection which enables us to communicate with our children. This does comes with a lot of in-app purchases which you will be able to control by signing on the website. To find out more about Vtech DigiGo, do check out their website.

Hi! Have you contact their customer service?
I had a look at parent setting and I can’t find a way to change language! I had a good look around all settings but I can’t see where to change the language.
I don’t want to press the reset buttton as it will ruin my handset. Maybe you try reset it, it is at the back with a pin. See if it allow you to change the language.
