Mini Hornit Review

27 October 2015 by Eileen

Recently, I came across Hornit via the Talk To Mums Family Playtime event in London. This Mini Hornit comes in four awesome attractive colours: purple/pink, blue/orange, red/blue and black. They are the ultimate lights and sound effects accessory for children’s bikes and scooters.

Inside this box, it comes with Mini Hornit, remote trigger (to use on your bike) and 2 spare AAA batteries. There are 2 AAA batteries already loaded in the Mini Hornit. It is very easy to install using the wings clip that even a child could do it.

It comes with 25 sounds and white and green lights. The 25 sounds are Bike Bell, Hooter, Olé Trumpet, Dixie Horn, Cycle Race Klaxon, Racing Car, Motorbike, Car Crash Helicopter, Aeroplane, Bomb Explosion, Laser, UFO, Zapper, Police Car, Fire Engine, Burp Fart, Magic Spell, Magic Carpet, Lion, Elephant, Horse, Rooster and Hornet.

The Mini Hornit is shaped like a bee and with its tiny yellow stinger button controls the volume. There are three settings: loud, medium and quiet. My children love it on the loudest setting especially when they are riding outside with the general background noise.

All the buttons are big and soft to press for the children. But they keep accidentally pressing the reset button and it resets the sound. They both prefer to use the remote trigger button to press for the sound than using the button on the Mini Hornit while using the scooter. Hence they won’t need to move their hand onto the middle of the handle bar.

The Mini Hornit has an Ingress Protection rating (IP) rating of IP33. This means it will withstand sprayed water and light rain from above only. Water can ingress via the battery lid, the socket and at the front by the bug eye lights. So be careful how you use it.

Overall it is simple to use and very effective especially the sound of the Mini Hornit is very distinctive. It is very well made and I think it a great accessory to for a bike or scooter to make it stand out. To find out more information or to buy, check out Hornit, Maplins and Halfords.

This is our video review and where I also demonstrate how to use it. https://youtu.be/u4yt5PHJvXM

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review however all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
