Beados Gem Designer Studio Review

17 July 2015 by Eileen

Beados Gem Designer Studio is a product from Character Online which is suitable for children aged 4+. This set is perfect if your child would like to create jewellery like rings, necklaces and many more. Beados Gems are small hexagon plastic gem beads which can be used to make pictures and then you use water to fuse them together. It comes with six design templates for you to follow and it lets you create all kinds of jewellery.

Inside the box, it comes with:

  • 500 Gem beads
  • 1 Gem designer studio
  • 1 Necklace with clasps
  • 1 Clasp
  • 2 Rubber bands
  • 1 Necklace Pendant
  • 1 Ring
  • 6 Connector plugs
  • 1 Bracelet
  • 5 Bracelet disks
  • 6 Design templates
  • 2 Base trays
  • 1 Bead scoop
  • Water sprayer
  • Instructions

Setting the studio up is straightforward . It is lightweight yet sturdy. This set comes with an amazing 500 gem beads in five different colours. Simply store the gems in the studio dispenser. It comes with six colour gem selector which is easy to rotate using one hand. Then press the white button on the top to dispense the beads into the gem pen. Both of my children often find that the gem pen is quite rigid and the length of the gem pen is too short. So they have to place the base tray to the studio as close as possible. Occasionally, the beads falls off the pen or the beads move to another gap after placing it but generally, they are easy to place.

There are 6 simple templates to follow. Ms C finds it quite hard to see the design template through the blue base tray. The base tray is not very transparent. It makes it hard for children with poor eye sight especially Ms C as she has mild visual impairment.

After both children created their designs, we filled the sprayer with water and sprayed the mist of water onto the beads and connector plugs if required. Once dried, place the designs onto the accessories. They look fantastic! Both my children enjoyed the flexibility of following a template or creating their own jewellery designs.

It is available to buy from Character Online, Amazon and other good retailers at RRP £19.99. Overall this is a fun and easy to use studio, I love the gem selector and the only downside is the rigidity of the gem pen.
