Relaxing Adventures: India and South Africa

May 24, 2015 by Eileen Leave a Comment

In broad terms, there are two types of holiday most tourists will embark upon. The relaxing retreat, where chilling out on the beach and lapping up the sun is the order of the day and the more adventurous getaway, where travellers explore the cultural highlights of a particular city and participate in a few active pursuits.

A lot depends on the holidaymaker in question and what they want from their time away. But where should you be heading in search of these distinctive escapes? India and South Africa are equally attractive destinations which promise to provide many types of travellers with everything they could possibly want.

Relaxing Adventures India South AfricaA Relaxing Retreat In India

Taj MahalDespite the fact that India’s urban areas are relatively chaotic, there are plenty of opportunities to take it easy and enjoy this country’s incredible appeal. Most of the time, this means escaping the city and heading to more rural regions.

From incredible man-made structures such as the Taj Mahal and the ancient temples of Khajuraho to the natural charm of the Ganges and Himalayas, India’s awe-inspiring attractions can be experienced at your own pace. For more information on capturing the essence of rural India on a relaxing break check out Saga’s Blog.

For an extra sense of peace and tranquillity, head to the coast and enjoy vast stretches of beautiful beaches. The alluring Indian Ocean is also an ideal backdrop for yoga, which is widely practised across the country and known to improve health and increase relaxation. It was good enough for the Beatles!

Adventurous getaway in South Africa

Nearly every aspect and attribute of South Africa makes it perfect for intrepid travellers. The only thing that can compete with its dramatic mountains and rolling plains is the country’s captivating and charismatic wildlife.

South AfricaTop of most itineraries will be going on safari, where if you get lucky you can gaze in wonder at the “big five” – the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard and White/Black rhinoceros.

For an even more intimate experience, you may choose to stay at an actual game reserve, which can also include traditional cooking demonstrations, talks about South African history as well as cultural dancing and singing performances.

Choosing a relaxing or adventurous holiday with Saga

For over fifties holidays with a difference check out Saga holidays. Saga has a range of travel options to choose from including a variety of exciting expeditions to the above destinations. With certain trips to India and South Africa, you can also expect a VIP door-to-door service, return flights and transfers, a Saga tour manager, and porterage at all hotels.

As a result, there are few reasons why you wouldn’t want to visit India or South Africa in the pursuit of a relaxing or adventurous holiday.
