Summer Activities A – Z: U

6 November 2014 by Eileen

I know that it is Autumn but I am struggling to write up these Summer Activities we did during summer. We are now on the letter U. We did struggle with this one for activities. This is what we did!

summer activities A - Z U umbrella

U for Umbrella cupcake liner

We thought long and hard and decided to use cupcake liners to make umbrellas! This is a very easy craft! You will need:

  • Cupcake liners
  • Decorations such as beads, goody eyes, stickers etc.
  • Ice cream stick
  • Pen knife

Score a line in the middle of the cupcake liner with the penknife and push in the ice cream stick. So that is your mini umbrella!

U for Underwear

We went shopping for underwear for both children for the new school year.

U for Unicorn

We went online and searched about the mythology of unicorns. My children first saw unicorns while watching Harry Potter and it has always fascinated them. We also went to the library to try to find story books about unicorn. Unfortunately, those books are too difficult for my children to read. We can revisit them when they are a bit older.

U for Up

We bought the Up DVD to watch. This is a lovely cartoon about this old man Carl wanting to avoid being taken away to a nursing home. He tries to fly his home to Paradise Falls, South America, along with a boy scout who accidentally lifted off with him. Both of my children enjoyed the show.

U for Utensils music

It is always great to upcycle any old utensils by creating fun activities for children. I took out some of my old pots and pans along with some tacky old wooden spoons for my children to jam to some music! They had a lot of fun bashing the pots and creating a lot of ‘fun’ noises!

I’m almost there now with writing up all my summer activities with just five more to go! So look out for our next activities soon!
