Matalan School Uniform Review

3 September 2014 by Eileen

This summer, I waited until the very last minute to pick up the kids school uniforms which is not ideal at all! When I looked at the Matalan Schoolwear website, there were already a few popular designs out of stock. Luckily, Ms C is not too fussy about the design.

This is my first time trying out Matalan school uniforms so I had no idea of the quality and sizes. But I had read a few reviews and they all recommended them. Ordering online was a breeze helped with plenty of photos of each item. Also all the items are very reasonably priced and great value. Impressively, within a few days, my delivery arrived with the full order.

This is Mr K (6 years old) wearing the 3 pack of red polo shirts for aged 6 – 7, boys classic shorts for aged 7, 5 pack ribbed ankle socks and real leather Velcro shoes size 12.

The shirts are comfortable and soft. The size fits him well. The shorts are slightly longer for him but he is not tall for his age group. The thickness of the socks is just about right for him. The shoes are well made with rubber soles. The soles are quite hard, so I would suggest inserting a padded insole for him. With the big Velcro straps on the shoes, it is so easy for Mr K to hold and strap it tightly.

Next Mr K tried the pull-on black trousers for aged 6 and the crew neck sweatshirt for aged 8-9.

The trousers comes with an adjustable waist strap with button. He found it easy to pull up. I love that it is pull up instead of a zip as sometimes zips can be hazardous. The sweatshirt is slightly too big for him but I thought washing and a hot tumble dry would shrink it. Surprisingly, it didn’t. It is also proof that that the sweatshirt is able to withstand the heat and stay in shape.

Now it’s Ms C’s turn (5 years old) to show off her new outfit. She is wearing the gingham print dress with accessories for aged 6, 2 pack plain red tights aged 6 – 7 and Lelli Kelly shoes from Jake Shoes.

The gingham print dress is too big and long for Ms C as she is very small for her age. The materials are slightly bumped/raised and requires ironing after washing. I didn’t particular like the uneven material as it doesn’t feel comfortable. It also come with matching hair accessories: 2 clips, 2 hair bands and a headband. The tights are made from thick materials and very soft and comfortable to wear.

Next, Ms C worn the grey jersey bow front pinafore (aged 5) with scallop edge cardigan (aged 6-7). Both pinafore and cardigan were very soft to touch and comfortable to wear. I am surprised with just how soft it is even after washing. After washing, both items of clothing still feels the same and kept their shape.

This is my first time buying from Matalan. Overall, I am very impressed with the quality and value of the clothing. I would recommend Matalan for school uniforms.

Disclosure: We have received voucher to buy the clothing for the purposes of writing this review, however, all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
