Running out of ideas on what to do this summer? We have been busy since day one of the summer holidays! Each day, choosing a letter from the alphabet in sequence, we have been trying out different activities and food. For letter F, we did these crafts:
Secret Garden – Fingerprint Friends
These Fingerprint Friends are suitable for aged 4 onwards. I love how well this box set is set up. The design of the box which can be used for storage and for the items provided are very well thought up. It comes with everything you need for colouring. It is definitely great as a present or for any little crafts! The box has two mini drawers that contains these:
Three ink pads (orange, light and dark green), 8 stamps, 2 booklets, 6 coloured pencils, 5 designed cards and envelopes.
This box theme is Secret Garden, so the stamps are also related to the theme like flowers, leaves, stars etc. The stamps are quite small and are easy for little fingers to hold.
Inside the box, there is a Hints and Tips booklet with lot of ideas on how to create different types of creatures like a squirrel, snail, bird, dragonfly etc. Without this guide, I would have no clue where to start. Now I am able to use fingerprints to create the creatures and then touch up the creatures using the stamps and colouring pencils to give it more details.
Both my children enjoyed this fingerprint craft very much. This is their first time using fingers to create this type of creature crafts. Without much prompting, Mr K did his own crocodile and drew the outline of its tails and head. Ms C preferred to freestyle where she randomly stamped her fingerprints everywhere on the page.
Girls About Town
The ‘Girl About Town’ wiro activity book is a comprehensive pre school and key stage 1 design, sticker and sketch set. It comes with 2 glitter glues, 8 felt tip pens, 9 pages of colour stickers, 9 pages of blank stickers, 3 models and 2 dogs (48 sheets.)
Ms C decorated and stuck the outfits and accessories onto the models and their pampered pooches. The book also includes 9 pages of pre-designed coloured stickers to ‘peel and stick’ on the models and 9 blank stickers to colour in and stick. Ms C doesn’t have the patience for extensive colouring and so she gave up colouring the sticker after a while. This book is very well designed and comes with clothing for different occasions. Ms C had a lot of fun sticking them and applying different accessories.
I would recommend Meadow to anyone. This is the second batch of items we have reviewed and we are very pleased with the quality and the overall well-designed books/boxset. It is very designed and will appeal to children of different age groups and personalities. Click here to read about the review on the stamp and stencil. Do look out for Meadow Kids products.
