Algy’s Amazing Adventures at Sea

13 May 2014 by Eileen

Algy’s Amazing Adventures at Sea is a book written by Kaye Umansky and illustrated by Richard Watson.  This is the red Early Reader which is the next step on your child’s reading journey.  It was released on 1st May 2014 and published by Orion Books.

Algy's Amazing Adventures at Sea

The book is paperback containing about 80 pages with colourful and bright illustrations.  The font comes in one size.

This is a story about Algy, his best friend Cherry and her little brother Brad who discover that the shed at the bottom of the garden takes them on an ocean adventure, and he isn’t very pleased.  There are lots of things Algy doesn’t like. He doesn’t like bright colours, birds and many more.   Algy just sounds like me! I also dislike a lot of stuff.  And on top of the list of things he doesn’t like is the sea.

The shed takes them to a sparkling blue ocean.  Cherry and Brad were so excited that they were looking for seashells and building sandcastles.  Meanwhile Algy was sulking in the corner.  He never had a good experience at the seaside.  Each of the previous times, something bad happened to him.  What will happen to him on this new adventure?  I will let you find out.

The storyline has quite a happy ending.  The book is easy to read and enjoyable for Mr K to read and understand by both the children.  After reading the book, Mr K wanted a shed so much.  I just had to remind him not all sheds come with a magical portal!

Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site.

Sounds like a great book and I love those treasure chests! You can’t get much better than a good pirate story!

That photo is great, did the kids help you out with making the treasure-chest props?
